The role Working closely with (and reporting to) the Research Development Officer, you will support OSGA’s research and finance functions. In particular you will provide administrative support for the research ethics approval (CUREC), travel risk assessment (TRA) and insurance processes. Whilst this is not primarily a finance role, you may be required to carry out basic finance duties at busy times and to cover staff absence. It is expected that the role will develop over time while remaining within the scope of Grade 5 responsibilities. Responsibilities/Duties         Co-ordinate departmental CUREC and travel risk assessment/insurance processes: provide support and advice to academics and researchers about the procedures for submitting CUREC and TRA/insurance applications, manage application records, review applications, provide feedback to applicants and deal with queries. Provide assistance to the Research Development Officer in the preparation of grant applications. Provide advice on the preparation of grant applications as directed by the Research Development Officer. Prepare financial costings for grant applications using the University’s costing tool (X5). Ensure that grant applications and award information are submitted to Research Services in a timely manner. Support the Finance Manager with some aspects of post-award management including project set-up on Oracle, report distribution, reviewing compliance with funders’ terms and conditions and preparation of audit files. Support the finance team with basic duties such as raising requisitions and checking expense claims as required. Carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade as may be required. Experience in an administrative support role, preferably in higher education or a similar field. Ability to interpret and explain complex information to others. Ability to work accurately with excellent attention to detail. Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision. Experience of working calmly under pressure and working successfully to tight deadlines. Ability to communicate fluently and tactfully, both orally and in writing, at all levels within the University and with external organisations. It brings together seven units: the African Studies Centre, the Latin American Centre (including the Brazilian Studies Programme), the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies, the Contemporary China Studies Programme, Russian and East European Studies, the Contemporary South Asia Studies Programme and the Middle East Programme. The administration of the School is based at 12 Bevington Road, with colleagues also providing administrative support across a number of locations in which the School’s constituent units are based (including the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies at St Antony’s College and the University of Oxford China Centre at St Hugh’s College). The School is devoted to research and graduate teaching in academic disciplines which attempt to understand the complexity and the interrelatedness of society through anthropology, economics, politics, history, sociology and culture.
