The role SSEE is creating the new role of Alumni Engagement Manager to build a thriving alumni community, create closer relationships and capitalise on our networks. You will be personally responsible for setting up and running our engagement with SSEE’s broad community of alumni, directly contributing to the next phase of SSEEs development. You will work closely with programmes and principal investigators across SSEE in doing so. Our alumni are former students (MSc SEE students and DPhils supervised in the Smith School), key participants in our executive education programmes, former staff and Honorary Research Associates, and former members of our Advisory Board and Business Fellow communities. The purpose of the role is to build and strengthen relationships between these alumni communities and SSEE and create a two-way exchange of information, networking opportunities and real-world impact. We aim to inform, equip and motivate our alumni networks to join us in our mission of supporting enterprise, public and private, to achieve netzero and sustainable development goals. This role will spot and develop strategic opportunities to expand the reach of our teaching and research, and accelerate the sustainability transition. The post-holder will work closely with colleagues in the Smith School core team, particularly development, communications, events and executive education, and with senior researchers. The post-holder will also work closely with key colleagues in SoGE and the wider University, particularly colleagues in alumni relations and careers. Responsibilities 1. Leadership and representing the Smith School: • Represent the Smith School professionally to alumni, former colleagues and senior stakeholders; speak authoritatively about the Smith School’s mission and research • Develop an alumni engagement strategy encompassing communication, events and fundraising (working closely with the relevant Heads, and seeking feedback from current students and the alumni community) • Be an active member of relevant SoGE/University committees and networks in order to learn from and share best practice, extend the reach of the Smith School through collaboration with the central University alumni team and other key Departments e.g. Blavatnik School of Government, Saïd Business School, and ensure co-ordination • Act as point of contact for less experienced team members across SSEE, providing day-to-day guidance and allocating tasks • Map our current alumni network to understand key stakeholders, themes and areas of potential impact, identify opportunities for e.g. policy engagement or corporate partnerships, high profile speakers, social media ambassadors, and work with the relevant core team Heads to take advantage of these opportunities. 2 2. School of Geography and the Environment The School of Geography and the Environment (SoGE) is a dynamic, diverse, interdisciplinary department at the University of Oxford combining natural and social science research interests and analytical skills, underpinned by geography’s tradition of working in many different situations and contexts. The School is internationally recognized for the quality of its teaching, research and wider engagement across the breadth of human geography, physical geography and environmental studies.
