Angela Taylor and Mike Jones, on topics related to the recovery of the primordial B-mode signal, including the development of novel component separation techniques, the modelling of Galactic foregrounds, the design of techniques to model and mitigate instrumental systematics, and the search for other large-scale polarised signals (e.g. parity violation), in the context of the LiteBIRD experiment. There will also be opportunities to apply these techniques to real data from state-of-the-art experiments, such as CBASS, or the Simons Observatory. At Oxford, they will become members of the Beecroft Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology. As part of the BIPAC, they will be embedded in a disparate network of astrophysicists carrying out research in large-scale structure, gravitational lensing, CMB physics, gravity and numerical relativity, galaxy formation, and computational cosmology. Good programming experience, an enthusiasm for coding and data analysis, and the ability to work in a large collaboration, are particularly relevant for this post. Responsibilities • Develop, test, and validate new component separation techniques to isolate primordial CMB signals with future LiteBIRD data. • Contribute to the study of instrumental systematics in LiteBIRD in the context of B-mode science. • Apply these techniques to data from existing experiments. • Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This may involve small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines • Taking part in the academic life of the BIPAC and the astrophysics group at the Physics Department, and in particular attending and taking part in seminars, colloquia and journal clubs. • Contribute ideas for new research projects, and develop ideas for generating research income • Take a leading role in the preparation of research publications • Present papers at conferences or public meetings • Represent the research network at external meetings/seminars • Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in LiteBIRD and other collaborations that the group is a member of • The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach if desired.
