The role This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead SCHEMA’s industry engagement and business development activities working at the interface of academia and industry. Based at the University of Oxford, the Industry Manager will lead SCHEMA’s engagement with industry, promoting SCHEMA and its research to industrial users. This will include expanding SCHEMA’s partnerships, identifying new funding opportunities, developing and ensuring the execution of new research and commercialisation projects and growing a sustainable pipeline of industry funding. You will be part of the core management team for SCHEMA. This includes the Hub Director (Prof. Williams), SCHEMA Hub and ED&I Manager and Communications Officer at Oxford. The Industry Manager will work closely with the administrative and communications team within the Department of Chemistry and engage teams in other Oxford departments, the central University and in other SCHEMA partner universities (Bath, Cambridge, Cardiff, Liverpool and York). Using your excellent leadership, management and organisational skills and knowledge of UK supply chains and existing market within the chemistry-using and chemical process you will promote SCHEMA, create partnerships and ensure SCHEMA delivers on its mission to deliver a step change in sustainable chemical manufacturing in the UK. About the Sustainable Chemicals and Materials Manufacturing Hub (SCHEMA) The SCHEMA Hub will be led by Prof. Charlotte Williams at Oxford’s Department of Chemistry and will involve academics working at the Universities of Oxford, Bath, Liverpool, Cardiff, York and Cambridge. The Sustainable Chemicals and Materials Manufacturing Hub (SCHEMA) is a multi-partner, multidisciplinary programme convening researchers from across the UK with a large consortium of commercial, technology translation and civic partners to improve the sustainability of chemical and polymer production by transforming their design, manufacture, and recyclability. SCHEMA’s vision is to establish the new science and engineering for the manufacture of sustainable chemicals and materials using processes that operate with sustainable raw materials from waste, air and water, and are powered by renewable electricity delivering UK supply chain resilience and manufacturing sector interconnectivity from chemicals to polymers. Our research is structured around four Grand Challenges: 1. 2. 3. 4. Transform renewable resources & wastes, with renewable power, to chemicals & polymers. Develop innovative manufacturing processes adaptable for future operations. Integrate digital and information technologies to maximise sustainability and resilience. Design products for life-cycle sustainability, i.e. re-manufacturing, recycling and, in some cases, biodegradation to keep sustainable carbon recirculating. The Programme is led by Principal Investigator (SCHEMA Director) Prof. Charlotte Williams supported by a co-Director (Prof Matthew Davidson, University of Bath). SCHEMA will deliver over 50 projects with its academic, industry, policy and international partners. Final job-description-and-selection-criteria.docx 2 Responsibilities • Lead on maintaining existing, and building new, industrial partnerships to grow SCHEMA membership, establish new research collaborations and co-develop new research and early-stage commercialisation projects. • Develop, write and submit proposals to secure new public and private collaborative research funding addressing SCHEMA KPIs • Proactively engage partners through site visits, design / delivery of Manufacturing Challenge Workshops and other engagement events to convene academic, industry, civic, policy and international SCHEMA partners. • Deputise for Directors and represent SCHEMA in external forums delivering presentations and papers to promote and disseminate SCHEMA and opportunities for engagement. • Provide regular pipeline forecasts and reports to inform the SCHEMA leadership team of progress on industrial membership, projects, outreach activities and funding secured, aided by SCHEMA Hub Manager and Communications Officer. • Work with the SCHEMA Hub and ED&I manager, ED&I and Sustainability Champions in the development, implementation and reporting of SCHEMA policies, plans and Codes of Conduct relating to: (i) Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; (ii) Ethics and Responsible Research and Innovation; (iii) Sustainability and (iv) Data Management • Working with the SCHEMA Communications Officer, create tailored communications for industry and other stakeholder partners, highlighting SCHEMA progress and impact. • Manage the translational activities in SCHEMA, enabling SCHEMA staff to access institutional support regarding IP and technology commercialisation. • Working with the SCHEMA Hub & ED&I Manager to develop and maintain project management documentation and ensure robust, comprehensive reporting, monitoring and evaluation of progress against KPIs, risk, impact, ED&I, financial spend and leveraged funding.
