Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Advanced Radio Astronomy Software Development

<div> We invite applications for a postdoctoral research assistant position to work on the development of optimised software for the processing pipelines of existing and emerging radio telescopes, such as ALMA, SKA and its precursors, etc. The project aims to develop new HPC (High Performance Computing) technologies to go beyond the limitations of current software, and to study the use of novel hardware platforms, such as GPUs, the new Intel MIC, etc.<br><br>The appointment is for two years commencing in 1 October 2012 or soon thereafter with the possibility of an extension for a further year and is based in the Oxford e-Research Centre. The project is funded by a European Union FP7 RadioNet3 grant held jointly by the Oxford e-Research Centre and Oxford Astrophysics.<br><br>The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant subject such as Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or have equivalent industrial experience. Experience of scientific and numerical computing and software development on advanced platforms is essential; knowledge of radio astronomy technologies is highly desirable. The candidate will join a successful radio astronomy software research and development team and is expected to collaborate actively with the Hilado international partners. <br><br>Only applications received by 12 noon on Friday 24 August 2012 can be considered.
