Editorial Assistant (Music Catalogues)

Applications for this vacancy closed on 13 May 2013 at 12:00PM
Applications are invited for an editorial assistant post in connection with
the Bodleian Library’s ‘Conversion of Music and Map Catalogues’ project,
funded by the Andrew W Mellon Foundation. The aim of the Project is to scan
the cards and slips from the physical map and music catalogues, then capture
the data from the cards by keyboarding. The ensuing database will be made
available online and the data ultimately incorporated into the University
libraries’ online catalogue. For further information, see the Project blog:
http://mapsandmusic.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/project/about/.

Working closely with two part-time Maps Editorial Assistants and a team of two
full-time postholders for the Music catalogues, under the supervision of a
part-time Project Manager, the successful candidate will be expected to
undertake quality assurance and the editorial review and enhancement of
rekeyed and encoded catalogue records derived from the Bodleian Library’s map
card catalogues, ensuring that all records have been transcribed without
typographical errors and tagged in compliance with Project standards,
implementing necessary changes directly onto the records by means of a simple
data entry interface. The tasks involved are to an extent mechanical, but will
require a high level of motivation, attention to detail, problem-solving
skills and the ability to prioritise work effectively. This appointment is
fixed-term for 1 year only until 31 July 2014.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate high standards of
accuracy while working quickly on routine tasks, a good level of IT literacy
and the ability to work as part of a team without constant supervision.
Familiarity with cartographic materials would be an advantage.

Only applications received by 12.00 midday on Monday 13 May 2013 can be
considered. Interviews are anticipated to be held during the week of 20 May
2013.
