Part-time Research Assistant

Applications for this vacancy closed on 17 June 2013 at 12:00PM
THIS VACANCY IS FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

We invite applications for a Research Assistant, funded by the Institute for
New Economic Thinking, to work with Professor Doyne Farmer at the Mathematical
Institute, University of Oxford. This is a part time (20 hours per week),
fixed term position of up to one year and is available for an immediate start.

The successful candidate will help find archival data. This is part of a
larger project to understand what drives technological improvement. For
example, one of the goals of the project is to understand to what extent
stimulating production of a technology drives its costs down. For this purpose
we are seeking data from “natural experiments” such as World War II, where
production was artificially stimulated. We will also be collecting other data
sets relating to the long-term behaviour of technology performance and costs.

The successful candidate will have a degree in a relevant subject and possess
library skills and experience in finding historical documents.

Please direct informal enquiries to Professor Doyne Farmer (email:
farmerj@maths.ox.ac.uk).

Applicants should read the job description document before writing their
application. As part of the online application, the applicant will be required
to upload a CV and statement setting out how she or he meets the selection
criteria and the names and contact details of two referees.

Only applications received before 12:00 noon UK time on Monday 17 June 2013
can be considered.
