Research Associate in Trusted Cloud Computing

Applications for this vacancy closed on 2 January 2015 at 12:00PM
The centre is seeking to recruit a PDRA in Trusted Cloud Computing to work on
the project - Trusted Cloud Computing.

Widespread adoption of public cloud computing is hindered in some fields by
the necessity for verifiable data privacy and security. Trusted computing is a
method where the state of a computing system may be recorded and
cryptographically verified. This project aims to bring the two of these
technologies together, thereby changing the trust relationship users have with
their cloud computing resources provider. Previously the centre has
demonstrated in a proof of concept prototype, myTrustedCloud, using trusted
computing in the cloud to provide verification of environment, software and
data. Combining this with the proven skills of 100 Percent IT in customising
the OpenStack cloud management framework to provide additional features beyond
the standard toolset, this project will extending the scope of the use of
trusted computing in the cloud to work across a distributed hardware
environment for both virtual servers and as standard storage. This project
proposes building the first commercial cloud product to meet the security
needs of possible future users of the cloud. The successful candidate will be
responsible for all steps of the implementation from business modelling to
full development. A PhD in computer science with familiarity of existing
literature and research in the field around Trusted Computing and its
implementation in Cloud Computing are essential.

Though the post is with the Oxford e-Research Centre the post will be
physically located at the offices of 100 Percent IT, at Oxford Road, Newbury,
Berkshire.

This is a fixed-term post to December 2016.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 2 January 2015.
