Primarily reporting to Dr David Dupret in the BNDU, the primary role of the
postholder will be to support and develop Optogenetics in the BNDU. In
addition, where this primary function allows, the postholder will play a
similar role for the remaining groups within the Department of Pharmacology,
under the line-management of Associate Professor Colin Akerman.

The primary responsibility of the candidate will be to develop innovative
viral vectors targeting specific neuronal populations for the purpose of
optogenetic manipulation of brain circuit dynamics in freely behaving rodents
and to supervise the installation of the optical and electronic devices
necessary for the in-vivo optogenetic manipulation of brain circuits (e.g.
lasers, fibre optics).

The postholder will also be expected to conduct individual research; analyse
detailed and complex data from a variety of sources; develop, establish, and
pursue appropriate analytical protocols and techniques to support research;
regularly write research articles at an international level for peer-reviewed
journals; present papers at conferences; and advise on the writing of funding
applications for new research projects.

Essential criteria for the post include: a relevant PhD/DPhil with post-
qualification research experience; publication record and familiarity with the
existing literature and research in the optogenetics; expert knowledge in the
discipline to support and develop research projects and methodologies; and
advanced knowledge in bioinformatics.
