<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <p>This senior technician will provide specialist technical support to the scientific programmes of the MRC Brain Network Dynamics Unit that use animals as part of their research on the brain. The postholder will be required to play a central role in the daily organisation and smooth running of the Biomedical Services facility (BMSU) of the MRC Unit.</p> <p>Candidates should have a good track record in animal technician work with small rodents, be fully conversant with all aspects of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, and hold a Home Office Personal Licence. Candidates are expected to be team players, able to work as part of a group and independently, and to have excellent communication skills. A well-developed ability to keep records, manage time and multitask is also essential.</p> <p>The postholder will be part of the MRC Unit&#8217;s BMSU Core Support team, and will be based at the unit&#8217;s main site at the Department of Pharmacology. The BMSU Core Support team works closely and collaboratively with all of the MRC Unit programmes that use animals as part of their original research into the function and dysfunction of brain circuits. The MRC Unit programmes employ innovative electrophysiological, anatomical, behavioural and genetics-based techniques to address their respective scientific aims.</p> <p>The postholder will be contractually required to undertake business critical work at the MRC Unit&#8217;s BMSU outside of core working days for the equivalent of 2 days (14.6 hours) per month. The postholder will be given reasonable notice of this requirement. The first 7.25 hours of such overtime work per week will be paid at time and a half, and any subsequent overtime hours in the same week will be paid at double time. Overtime will be paid as a monthly allowance</p> <p>This is an open-ended post (externally funded by the Medical Research Council) to start on 1 August 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter.</p> <p>The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 31 July 2015.</p> </div>
