<p></p><p>The Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford is currently seeking a postdoctoral research assistant to join the Computational Biology Group.</p><br><p>This post is funded by the EU (on the project AirPROM, <a rel="nofollow" href="http:%20//www.airprom.eu">www.airprom.eu</a>) and is a fixed-term position until 28 February 2016 (with a potential 4 month extension). This project involves the development of computational models of the respiratory system with application to extensive clinical data investigating structure-function relationships in asthmatic patients.</p><br><p>In particular, you will work on building a multi-scale model – linking tissue level properties to a whole organ model – to simulate an asthma attack in patients pre- and post-bronchial thermoplasty treatment. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team in collaboration with leading experimentalists, clinicians and mathematical modellers at the Universities of Nottingham, Sheffield, and Leicester - plus many others across Europe. Within Oxford, the project will be supervised by a diverse team consisting of Drs Kelly Burrowes, Rafel Bordas, David Kay, and Vicente Grau.</p><br><p>You must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in a relevant branch of applied mathematics, biomedical engineering, or a similar discipline and an enthusiasm for multidisciplinary research. A strong analytical and computational background and solid programming skills are essential. Previous experience in modelling biological systems would be an advantage, but is not essential.</p><br><p>The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 6 November 2015. Interviews are expected to be held in the week commencing 9 November 2015.</p>
