Researcher on Security and Privacy in Smart Grid Systems

Applications for this vacancy closed on 29 February 2016 at 12:00PM
The Department has an exciting new full-time opportunity for a Researcher in
Security and Privacy in Smart Grid Systems, starting in April 2016. Led in
Oxford by Professor Andrew Martin, the project is in collaboration with the
National University of Singapore, and focuses on the development of
architecture components and correct use of trusted computing technologies.

Overall, the project aims to analyse and enhance the security and privacy in
the bi-directional communication and interaction in smart grid systems. The
main innovation in the project is the use of a highly-assured trustworthy
communications proxy. In particular, you will design and implement a high-
assurance security- and privacy-enhancing communication architecture based on
approaches and technologies from the field of trusted computing. Additionally,
we are set to develop a formal framework and software toolkit for model
checking trusted computing based smart grid systems, with the objective of
generalizing these techniques for use in other distributed computing contexts.

The primary selection criteria are a doctoral degree (or close to completion)
in a relevant area of science/related discipline, demonstrable experience in
the design and/or implementation of advanced distributed systems, and
programming skills in high- and low-level languages. Experience of using
formal methods, particularly in the practical analysis of security protocols,
and detailed understanding of trusted computing technologies, such as TPM,
TXT, and TrustZone is highly desirable.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 29 February 2016.
Interviews are expected to be held on 2 March 2016.
