<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <p></p><p>THIS VACANCY IS FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY.</p><br><p>An established and expanding research group in the Department of Pharmacology, led by Professor Fran Platt, is seeking a skilled and experienced Laboratory Manager/Research Assistant to ensure the group&#8217;s laboratory operations are efficient and meet national and international laboratory standards and, also, to take responsibility for a dedicated research project in the area of glycosphingolipid dysregulation in rare and common human diseases.</p><br><p>The Platt group has a long-term interest in understanding and treating lysosomal storage diseases, a group of inherited metabolic diseases typically characterized by severe pathology in the brain. In addition to directly supporting the PI with the day-to-day management of the laboratory, the postholder will be expected to support ongoing research projects and run experiments.</p><br><p>The successful candidate will be expected to meet the following criteria:</p><br><ul><br><li>educated to Masters level or higher with experience in conducting research, laboratory management and overseeing laboratory operations;</li><br><li>knowledge of UK and other relevant safety protocols and legislation with evidence of applying this in practice;</li><br><li>demonstrable knowledge of laboratory management systems, quality standards and experience of their implementation;</li><br><li>a proven ability to engage with staff at all levels of the organisation, as well as experience of supervising students and visitors;</li><br><li>excellent diplomacy skills. The ability to interact productively with collaborators and other stakeholders;</li><br><li>excellent communication skills, including the ability to produce reports and draft complex correspondence.</li><br></ul><br><p>This post is fixed-term for up to 21 months, funded by Target ALS and Action Medical Research.</p><br><p>The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Monday 14 March 2016.</p> </div>
