Part-time Shelver (variable hours, term-time only; 2 posts)

Applications for this vacancy closed on 16 September 2016 at 12:00PM
The English Faculty Library (EFL) was established in 1914 “to serve all those
reading and teaching English at Oxford”. The EFL is seeking to appoint two
motivated and reliable individuals to provide essential support in term-time
to the rest of the small team in this busy lending library; the EFL currently
serves over 2,000 readers from the English Faculty and from other University
departments.

You will be responsible for sorting and shelving returned books, ensuring that
the collection is kept tidy and well-maintained, assisting readers with
locating books on the open shelves, and other equivalent duties within the
grading of the post. Numeracy, attention to detail, a strong customer-service
approach, and the ability to lift and carry books and to use ladders and
kickstools are essential. Familiarity with the subject area and previous
experience of working in academic libraries would be an advantage.

This is a permanent variable hours (paid as claimed) post. It is anticipated
that you will work approximately 5 hours per week term-time only (weeks 0-9).
The working pattern is anticipated to be an hour a day from approximately 4.00
pm.

This post is part of a pilot scheme testing a new Supporting Evidence form in
place of the more usual ‘supporting statement’. Please ensure that you
carefully read the How to Apply section provided in the Job Description, which
you can download below along with the required Supporting Evidence form. CVs
will not form part of the selection process.

Only applications received online before 12.00 midday on Friday 16 September
2016 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Tuesday 27
September 2016.
