Part-time Library Assistant

Applications for this vacancy closed on 21 November 2016 at 12:00PM
The English Faculty Library (EFL) was established in 1914 “to serve all those
reading and teaching English at Oxford”. We are seeking an enthusiastic and
reliable person to join the small team in our busy library; the EFL currently
serves over 2,000 readers from the English Faculty and from other University
departments. Your duties will include front-line reader services for a variety
of readers, from undergraduates to visiting scholars, and you will deal with a
wide range of enquiries. You will promote and deliver training to library
users in support of the Reader Services Librarian and provide essential
support for the work on the collections including reclassification and
inventory control projects. You will also assist with re-shelving, book moves
and transferring stock with the use of trolleys and kick-stools. This post
includes lone working in the library for one shift per week (5.00 - 7.00 pm)
while a porter is in the building.

You will have a good general education, experience of working in an academic
library and hold a strong customer service philosophy. You will demonstrate
excellent IT and communication skills and have a flexible and constructive
approach to work and to working in a team, as well as the ability to work
without close supervision. Although any necessary training will be provided,
experience of Aleph, SOLO, OXLIP+ and Oxford University eJournals would be an
advantage.

This is a permanent part-time post working 27 hours on average per week
(0.74FTE) including one evening shift (5.00 - 7.00 pm) per week during term
time.

This post is part of a pilot scheme testing a new Supporting Evidence Form in
place of the more usual ‘supporting statement’. You MUST submit a completed
Supporting Evidence Form in order for your application to be processed. Please
ensure that you carefully read the How to Apply section provided in the Job
Description, which you can download below along with the required Supporting
Evidence Form. Covering letters, supporting statements and CVs will NOT form
part of the selection process.

Only applications received online before 12.00 midday on Monday 21 November
2016 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Monday 5
December 2016.
