Finance Officer

The Department of Pharmacology is seeking a Finance Officer to manage the day-
to-day financial activities of the department and to assist the Administrator
with the management of research grants.



The postholder will provide day-to-day supervision of the Administrative
Assistant and will be responsible for the Accounts Payable process, liaising
with suppliers and research staff and providing general support to the
Administrator. In addition, the postholder will be expected to develop their
knowledge of the grants application and management process to provide support
in this area.



Working with staff and students at all levels of the organisation, the
postholder provides an essential front-line support service dealing with a
range of financial matters including purchasing, liaising with suppliers,
matching and payment of invoices, petty cash, journals, month- and year-end
processes, payment requests and travel and expenses claims. In addition, the
successful candidate will manage the Department's casual payroll process and
will work closely with the Deputy Administrator (Personnel) to make monthly
payroll changes, processing new starters and leavers and amending contract
details.



The postholder should have experience of financial administration, in
particular within a higher education environment, and should be educated to
GCSE level or equivalent. Excellent IT skills and experience of the
University's Oracle finance and CORE HR systems are also required.



This is a permanent role, with an initial probationary period of 12 months,
which is available from 1 January 2017.
