Research Assistant in Neuroscience

<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <p></p><p>We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Assistant with excellent organisational and communication skills. The postholder will provide specialised support to our ongoing research efforts. You will have the opportunity to participate in research projects and contribute to the general running of the lab.</p><br><p>You should hold a BTEC/HND/BSc or equivalent undergraduate degree in an area of biological research as well as having experience of laboratory technician work and/or research experience. In addition, you will be proficient with information technology, especially MS Word, Excel and Power Point; have excellent communication and organisational skills; and the ability to contribute to substantial reports and publications. Experience of neuroanatomy techniques and microscopy, electronic procurement systems, and advising and training junior members of a research team and/or interacting with external collaborators would be an advantage.</p><br><p>Your main focus will be to assist the Group Leader and Research Support Manager in the delivery of the research programme This will include preparing laboratory reagents and stock-keeping of laboratory consumables and supplies; assisting in record keeping, database management and laboratory compliance with best practice (eg standard operating procedures and Health and Safety); developing and applying novel histological processing and analysis of brain tissue; performing light and electron microscopic immunohistochemistry of brain tissue; planning, performing and providing documentation of experiments to high standards; collecting and analysing data, drawing conclusions from them and presenting written reports.</p><br><p>The post is funded by the European Research Council and is available on a fixed-term basis for 12 months in the first instance, with a possibility of extension.</p><br><p>The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 3 March 2017.</p> </div>
