Visitor Experience Assistant (Variable Hours)

You’ll be passionate about delivering great customer service. You’ll be

You’ll be part of the largest team in the museum. There are nearly 100 people
in the Visitor Experience team from volunteers to supervisors and managers.
You’ll get the chance to work with a diverse range of people from varied
backgrounds. The visitor experience team is an exciting place to learn from
your peers and to share your skills and knowledge.



You will be delivering world class service for every visitor. You’ll encourage
visitors to the museum to donate, see our must see items and leave feedback.
You’ll be on hand to answer visitor’s questions ranging from directions to
specific information (and you’ll get all the training you need to do this.)



You’ll also understand the importance of health, safety and security. You’ll
be alert and mindful of the irreplaceable value of our collection and you will
work to ensure no items or people come to harm.



This role involves interacting with visitors while moving around the galleries
and the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods is required. This job
includes varied working patterns and positions which will include working
alone or in part of a team. Shifts will include occasional evenings as well as
weekend and bank holiday shifts when required.



The Ashmolean Museum has been described as “unquestionably the finest
university museum in the world” (The Times, October 29th, 2009). The Museum is
a part of the Oxford University Museums Group and houses the University’s
collections of art and archaeology together with objects and works owned by
other private individuals and bodies and loaned to it. The collections
themselves are of world significance. They range from archaeology to the fine
and decorative arts of Europe and Asia and from coins to casts of classical
sculpture. These are used for teaching and research purposes both within the
University and in the worldwide academic and research communities. Above all,
the Ashmolean is a great public Museum, open to all without charge.
