Senior Research Associate on Reasoning in Enterprise Knowledge Graphs

Applications for this vacancy closed on 20 February 2019 at 12:00PM
We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity at the Department of
Computer Science for a Senior Research Associate on Reasoning in Enterprise
Knowledge Graphs, part of the Learning, Applying, Multiplying Big Data
Analytics (LAMBDA) collaborative project (https://project-lambda.org). Our
focus at Oxford is on Enterprise Knowledge Graphs as one of the keys to big
data analytics, bringing together machine learning, logic-based reasoning and
big data processing. Knowledge Graphs are one of the fastest growing topics in
computer science, with the vast majority of companies adopting or wanting to
adopt Knowledge Graphs. LAMBDA is conducted in strong collaboration with the
VADA project, under the leadership of Professor Georg Gottlob FRS.

This role is a unique opportunity to participate in all aspects of the LAMBDA
project from the very beginning, from research in the area of logical
reasoning in enterprise knowledge graphs, creating teaching material and
courses, and working on demonstrations and uses cases of applications together
with the partners of LAMBDA. This will include frequent international
cooperation across Europe. It will also allow for a tightly integrated
cooperation with the VADA project at Oxford and its Enterprise Knowledge
Graphs system VADALOG.

You will have a PhD in a relevant area of science or related discipline,
proven experience in Datalog or rule-based logical reasoning, and an excellent
systems design and implementation background or excellent background in
database theory and logic. Experience in database theory, database or
information systems implementation, or experience or strong interest in
applying machine learning systems and techniques is highly desirable.

Whilst the role is a Grade 8 position, we would be willing to consider
candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development
opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 7 (£32,236 -
£39,609 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly (for Grade 7, you
would be expected to hold a doctoral degree in computer science or be close to
completion). This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment
where appropriate.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 20 February 2019.
Interviews are expected to be held on 6 March 2019.

Our staff and students come from all over the world and we proudly promote a
friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through
diversity groups and champions, for example: www.cs.ox.ac.uk/aboutus/women-cs-
oxford/index.html, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as
the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from
periods of extended absence, for example maternity leave.
