Warehouse Assistant

Applications for this vacancy closed on 25 February 2019 at 12:00PM
The Bodleian Libraries has a vacancy for a Warehouse Assistant at its Book
Storage Facility (BSF) in Swindon. The BSF is a high density storage facility
housing the Libraries’ collections. Readers in libraries across the University
order items from the facility and these are delivered on the same or next day.
Items are retrieved and refiled from racking locations using wire guided Very
Narrow Aisle (VNA) forklift trucks.

As a Warehouse Assistant you will support the operations of the BSF by
flexibly performing a variety of tasks in response to customer demand. This
will include operating manual handling equipment (i.e. High Level Order
Pickers and Low Level Order Pickers), retrieving and refilling material in the
warehouse, processing material in the Ancillary Building for dispatch and
return, inputting data and scanning documents on request.

You will have previous experience of warehouse operations, have the ability to
operate manual handling equipment and be comfortable working at height using a
variety of methods including a High Level Order Picker. Attention to detail is
essential in order to locate items according to a numerical sequence as well
as computer skills and operating company-based software. You will also have a
customer-focused aptitude, a “can do” flexible approach to work and be a good
team player. The ability to lift and carry books and totes and push trolleys
is also essential.

This is a permanent full-time post.

The Book Storage Facility has a permanent shift system. This particular role
will work a fixed shift of 2.00 - 10.00pm Monday - Friday.

This role requires moving totes of books up to 15kg in weight, working at
heights and may involve driving the book delivery van.

Owing to the nature of this post, candidates will be required to undertake a
basic DBS check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily
prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged
individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.

You will be required to upload a supporting statement as part of your online
application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and
desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain
how you meet each one. CV’s will not be considered.

Only applications received online before 12.00 midday on Monday 25 February
2019 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Tuesday 5
March 2019.
