The Faculty of English Language and Literature seeks to appoint an
Administrative Assistant capable of playing a key role in the administration
of a large and busy faculty. The postholder will form part of the Faculty
Office team, who provide a first point of contact for visitors to the faculty,
staff, and students, as well as making arrangements for teaching (including
producing the Faculty’s termly Lecture List), conferences and special events;
managing room bookings in the St Cross Building; maintaining the faculty
website and intranet; and providing general administrative support to
academics and the wider administration team.



The postholder will be one of two (1.5 FTE) administrative assistants who
support the Deputy Administrator in the provision of the Faculty Office’s
services. They will provide general administrative support as part of the
office team and will also have responsibility for a number of specific areas.
These will initially include producing the Faculty lecture list; supporting
events (such as special lectures and alumni events); managing the Faculty’s
prizes; and updating pages of the Faculty website, intranet, and VLE (virtual
learning environment), but members of the office team are expected to work
flexibly across all aspects of the office’s work and the allocation of
responsibility may be changed in the future to reflect workloads and
individuals’ experience and abilities.



The successful applicant will be able to work on their own initiative and will
possess good attention to detail and organisational skills. They should have
previous experience of an office environment, good IT skills and be capable
and confident in dealing with a wide range of individuals, including students,
academics and external visitors, working as part of a team in a busy, but
friendly, office.
