<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <p></p><p>Please note the vacancy closing date has been extended.</p><br> <p>The Front of House (FOH) Supervisor will be the first point of contact for the FOH team, co-ordinating the day-to-day opening of the Museum primarily in the absence of the FOH Manager. The Museum has a small FOH team which consists of FOH team members who assist visitors in the gallery day-to-day delivering a world class visitor experience and a FOH Manager. The FOH Manager leads on the day-to-day management of the team and completes key administrative tasks. The FOH Supervisor will assist in the general day-to-day running of the Museum and will deputise in the absence of the FOH Manager or Head of Operations where an immediate decision is required. This role will work under the supervision of the FOH Manager and Head of Operations with a key focus on the day to day delivery of our visitor experience and Museum operation.</p><br> <p>You should be able to work evening, weekend and bank holiday shifts when required, with flexibility to support museum events.</p><br> <p>You&#8217;ll be part of the supervisory team supporting staff and volunteers in delivering a world class experience to our visitors. You&#8217;ll get the chance to work with a diverse range of people from various backgrounds. You&#8217;ll be satisfied when you see a customer leave happy and enjoy working in a KPI based environment to measure the success of our delivery.</p><br> <p>The History of Science Museum houses an unrivalled collection of historic scientific instruments in the world&#8217;s oldest surviving purpose-built museum building, the Old Ashmolean on Broad Street, Oxford. By virtue of the collection and the building, the Museum occupies a special position, both in the study of the history of science and in the development of Western culture and collecting. The present collection preserves the material of past science. As a department of the University of Oxford, the Museum has a role both in making this material available for study by historians, and presenting it to the visiting public.</p><br> <p>Approximately 20,000 objects cover almost all aspects of the history of science, from antiquity to the early 1900s. Particular strengths include the collections of astrolabes, sundials and early mathematical instruments, together with apparatus associated with chemistry, medicine, and communications. In addition, the Museum possesses a unique reference library for the study of the history of scientific instruments that includes manuscripts, prints and early photographic material.</p><br> <p>The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on Thursday 12 September 2019. We expect to hold interviews for this role on week commencing Monday 30 September 2019. A start date will be agreed with the successful candidate for as soon as is practicable.</p> </div>
