Library Assistant

Applications for this vacancy closed on 28 August 2019 at 12:00PM
We are seeking a customer-focused Library Assistant to work as part of the
teams within the History Faculty Library (HFL), based in the iconic Radcliffe
Camera, and the Wellcome Unit Library (WUL).

You will support the provision of Bodleian Radcliffe Camera library services
and assist in front line reader services work via the Lower Camera circulation
desk. You will also be required to re-sensitise returned books, sort them for
re-shelving and finally place them back on the shelf. The work is physical but
also requires a good eye for detail and accuracy as well as the ability to
work independently.

You will also provide occasional clerical support related to the provision of
online teaching material of the HFL. You will have basic collection
maintenance responsibilities for printed collections in the Radcliffe Camera
and WUL. You must be confident working without direct supervision as you will
be expected to occasionally deputise for the Wellcome Library Librarian-in-
Charge.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
are essential. Ability to do routine library work under pressure, accuracy,
reliability and good interpersonal skills are important qualities for this
post. Previous experience of library work is essential and familiarity with
ALEPH/library databases would be an advantage.

Working a total of 36.5 hours per week, you will divide your time working 21.5
hours in the Radcliffe Camera and 15 hours in the Wellcome Unit Library for 10
months of the year and will be based in the Radcliffe Camera full-time in July
and August.

You will be required to upload a supporting statement as part of your online
application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and
desirable selection criteria, as listed in the further particulars, and
explain how you meet each one. CVs will not form part of the selection
process.

Only applications received online before 12.00 midday on 28 August 2019 can be
considered.
