PLEASE NOTE THE CLOSING DATE FOR THIS VACANCY HAS BEEN EXTENDED

Do you want to join a professional, close knit, well-trained and motivated
security team working for the University of Oxford at the Ashmolean Museum?
Then an exciting opportunity has arisen for you with the chance to receive
accredited formal apprenticeship training and development in a busy but
extremely rewarding security environment.

Your role will be essential in protecting the safety of our staff, volunteers,
visitors and contractors as well as the security of the Nation’s valuable
exhibits.

You will be part of a specialist team of highly trained and dedicated security
officers responsible for the effective implementation of the Museum’s security
and safety procedures under the direction of the Head of Safety and Security.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to, working in the Museum’s
security control room, carrying out patrolling of the premises for both
security and Health and Safety purposes, providing pro-active assistance to
the Museum departments, providing a visible security presence at the front
door and undertaking reception duties.

Ideally you will have some experience of working within a security environment
and operating security surveillance, intruder detection, access control, fire
and communications systems but full training will be given to the successful
candidate.

You will possess excellent customer service qualities with a friendly persona
and a willingness to go the extra mile to help the Museum achieve its
objectives. You will also have the ability to make effective and reasoned
decisions sometimes under pressure or in difficult circumstances.

An SIA Door Supervisors qualification and a First Aid qualification would be
desirable.

This is a permanent variable hours post.

This role requires regular manual handling, patrolling the museum space and
climbing stairs. Lone working and safety-critical work, including quick and
effective response to emergency situations are also required.

Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to
undertake a basic DBS check. The possession of a criminal record will not
necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are
judged individually according to the nature of the role and information
provided. Furthermore, this post is subject to Known-Consignor checks, which
include references for the previous five years and information on employment
gaps of more than 28 days.

You will be required to upload a CV and a supporting statement as part of your
online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the
essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description,
and explain how you meet each one.

Only applications received online by 12.00 midday on Monday 18 November 2019
can be considered.
