The School of Archaeology, in association with Hertford College is seeking to
appoint an Associate Professor of Cognitive Archaeology with effect from 1
July 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The School of Archaeology,
comprising the Institute of Archaeology and Research Laboratory for Art
History Archaeology, is a major centre for archaeological teaching and
research that strives to combine theoretical innovation with cutting-edge
archaeological science. The successful candidate will become a Tutorial Fellow
at Hertford College, with access to a range of benefits and facilities
enhancing academic life, as set out in the job description.



The main duties of the post are to carry out, disseminate the results of,
obtain funding for, and supervise research at a high international standard in
cognitive archaeology, to teach a range of topics in cognitive and theoretical
archaeology via lectures and classes, and to perform administrative and
pastoral functions associated with teaching and research. The postholder will
also be expected to provide small group (tutorial) undergraduate teaching for
Hertford College on a range of subjects at both introductory and advanced
levels, as well as overseeing the recruitment of students and organisation of
their curriculum.



The combined College and University salary will be on a scale up to £64,605
p.a. An additional allowance of £2,804 p.a. would be made upon award of the
title of Professor. The college provides substantial additional benefits
including a housing allowance (currently £9,799 p.a.) if the Fellow does not
occupy college residential accommodation.



The successful candidate will have a PhD in cognitive archaeology or closely
related subject and will demonstrate the ability to carry out research at a
high international level along with the ability to teach effectively across a
range of topics in theoretical archaeology.
