Graduate Library Trainee

Applications for this vacancy closed on 22 February 2021 at 12:00PM
For the first step in your career in Librarianship/Information Management,
Oxford’s one year full-time traineeships provide an excellent launch-pad for
subsequent postgraduate qualifications and a professional career. Around 9
vacancies will be available, commencing in September 2021 and based in
research, faculty and departmental libraries within the Bodleian Libraries.

Trainees at Oxford benefit from on-the-job training, professional and social
support, and a varied programme of weekly training events (talks, workshops,
library visits, IT training) operated under the SCONUL Code of Practice. The
trainees play an integral part in the smooth running of their library but
individual and group project work is also encouraged.

Posts are aimed at graduates (of all ages) with good IT skills, a flexible and
customer-orientated approach, and a desire to progress to a postgraduate
qualification in librarianship. Applications are welcomed from graduates in
any discipline. However, we are always interested in receiving applications
from those with a background in science/medicine, law and Western European
Languages or Eastern European languages (particularly Russian).

**Please do not apply if you already have an undergraduate or postgraduate
degree related to Librarianship and/or Information Management, or if you have
already completed a Library Traineeship.**

This role will not attract sufficient points to obtain a sponsored Tier 2 visa
under the points based immigration system. However, applications are welcome
from candidates who don’t currently have the right to work in the UK, but who
would be eligible to obtain a visa via another route.

Benefits include 38 days leave (including bank holidays and fixed closures),
extensive training and development opportunities, access to travel and
childcare schemes, free entry to colleges, discounted access to sporting
facilities and a wide range of other staff discounts. For more details please
see http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/personnel/staffinfo/benefits/.

You will be required to upload a Supporting Statement (no more than 2 sides of
A4 paper), your response to the graduate trainee question (no more than 100
words) and your CV as part of your online application. Your Supporting
Statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria,
as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. Please be
aware that if you go over the limit of 2 sides of A4 on the Supporting
Statement and/or the word limit on the graduate trainee question your
application may not be considered.

Please ensure that you carefully read the ‘How to apply’ section provided in
the Job Description, which you can download below along with the required
graduate trainee question template. The short-listing will be based on the
evidence you provide in your Supporting Statement, your CV and the graduate
trainee question. If you do not attach ALL of the required documents, your
application will NOT be processed.

Only applications received online before 12.00 midday (GMT) on Monday 22
February 2021 can be considered. We hope to notify candidates to let them know
if they have been called to interview by the start of April and interviews are
anticipated to be held in week commencing 19 April 2021. Given the current
pandemic it is highly likely that interviews for the graduate trainee posts
will be held online.
