The role
This post provides a key role in supporting the set-up and delivery of a Motor Neurone Disease Translational
Accelerator (MNDAcc), which is an MRC-funded project to enable high quality research that will accelerate the
development of treatments for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This will be achieved by inviting applications for
experimental medicine studies, and then managing the process of reviewing, selecting and monitoring the
successful applications.
The different components of work will include specification of the required infrastructure, developing and
implementing a Request for Proposal process, organising a running meetings and webinars, seeking reviews,
managing milestones and reporting.
The post-holder will provide support to an Executive Team based in different organisations and locations and a
Scientific Steering Group of international experts.
Responsibilities
•
To coordinate and support the activities of the Executive Team and the Scientific Group
•
Develop and manage the Request for Proposal process.
•
Organise and assist in the running of webinars for the researchers that are planning to submit proposals.
•
Be the point contact for proposal enquiries.
•
Manage the receipt of proposals and the process of allocating appropriate reviewers for each proposal.
•
Manage the operation of the MNDAcc and support the Executive Team in the management of proposals.
•
Liaise with Swansea University on the specification and development of the data management systems.
•
Develop specifications for required data management tools and liaise with Swansea University on their
development and implementation.
•
Liaise with data controllers, biosample repositories and core platforms.
•
Maintain regular liaison with successful projects.
•
Manage project milestones and reporting.
•
Provide administrative support for the Executive Team.
•
Assist with project management activities within the broader Dementias Platform UK programme as deemed
appropriate by the Senior Project Manager, and commensurate with the level of the post.

Educated to degree level or equivalent.
Experience of managing projects across multiple locations and organisations.
Excellent administrative and organisational skills, flexibility, initiative and a willingness to accept responsibility
and work independently.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to deal with a wide range of people at
all levels within and outside of the University, in a positive and professional manner, and to provide accurate
and coherent information when required.
Experience of organising and coordinating meetings and events.
Demonstrable ability to analyse, interpret and present detailed data (numerical and text), working with
accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to use initiative to deal proactively with a range of tasks, and to plan and prioritise work so as to meet
fixed deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy; enthusiasm and preparedness to work under pressure;
Experience of financial management including preparing and monitoring budgets;
Excellent IT literacy: evidence of competence with MS Office, particularly Excel, Word and email and the
ability to learn new applications.

Department of Psychiatry
The Department of Psychiatry based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford has an international reputation for
excellence. The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox. The Department has a substantial research
programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for
Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry. There are approximately 220
staff including 33 principal investigators leading research groups investigating applying a wide range of approaches
from translational neuroscience, experimental medicine, epidemiology, clinical trials and health services research
