The role The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN) is looking for a professional, friendly and customer-focused individual to join our busy departmental finance team that supports our world leading researchers and students. The Finance Officer plays a key role processing a range of financial transactions relating to Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Expense claims accurately and in a timely manner. Working closely with the other members of the finance team you will promote and maintain a customer-focussed, high-quality service, and ensure all financial transactions are processed and recorded accurately and in line with university financial controls. In addition, you will need to possess initiative, the ability to work to deadlines and to maintain a high level of attention to detail given the duties involved. Responsibilities  Respond to a range of enquiries, providing specialist advice and guidance on financial procedures, systems and policies to staff at various levels.  Process a range of financial transactions, including purchase orders, accounts payable invoices, accounts receivable invoices, expense claims, and student/visitor payments.  Process journals for recharges and corrections between grants/GL accounts.  Ensure all financial transactions are carried out in accordance with the University and external financial regulations and accurate and complete accounting records are maintained for audit purposes.  Keep up to date reconciliations of Departmental Barclaycards, and ensure timely submission of Monthly Barclaycard statements to Central Payments Team.  Deal with queries from Suppliers via telephone/email regarding outstanding invoices, VAT/price/quantity queries.  Run financial reports regularly for distribution and taking actions to resolve any issues.  Gather, manipulate and present data at team meetings and/or for consideration by the Finance Manager.  Provide training and allocate work to less-experienced members of staff.  Help co-ordinate with other members of the finance team the archiving of historic accounts payable, accounts receivable and expense claim documents. Assist with the collection of documents for audit purposes when required.  Maintain good working relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders and be proactive in identifying issues and proposing solutions.  Contribute towards the development and implementation of departmental financial procedures, updating guidance for staff within the department when required.  Foster a positive team culture, and model core competencies of team-working, communication, relationship management and adaptability.  Undertake other duties in the department from time to time as determined commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of this post, and any other reasonable request.
