About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Paediatrics as our Senior Information Governance Manager.

 

You will play an important role in helping to supervise and deliver the governance, risk management and compliance aspects of Information Governance (IG) and Security related activities across the Department.

 

You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with a range of regulatory requirements whilst undertaking targeted activities to further the development, implementation and maintenance of the Department’s audit, policy and training processes.

 

You will be working in a growing department within the Medical Sciences Division. The Department of Paediatrics is a world leader in child health research and hosts internationally renowned research programmes in drug development, gastroenterology, haematology, HIV, immunology, neuroimaging, neuromuscular diseases and vaccinology.

 

This position is offered full-time on a permanent basis with the opportunity for remote working, subject to discussion with the line manager.

 

This role meets the criteria for a UK Skilled Worker visa.

 

About you

You will be an experienced IG professional with management experience, who is dedicated to helping to provide the Department with the best possible service within the constraints of the University and this area of work.

 

The University Information Compliance Team (ICT) and Information Security (InfoSec) Team provide oversight of data protection and privacy with the support of a Data Privacy Coordinator in the University Medical Sciences Division (MSD). You will be expected to oversee coordination with the various stakeholders as appropriate to monitor and confirm that the Department operates effectively within the frameworks, policies and guidance provided by the University.

The post holder will take a leading role in the delivery of the governance, risk management and compliance elements of the Information Governance and Security related activities across the department. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring compliance with a range of regulatory requirements through the development, implementation and maintenance of audit, policy and training processes. There is a particular focus on the coordination of: certification under the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT); implementation, monitoring and support of departmental and group policies relating to GDPR obligations; IG support for funding, REC, clinical trial and other application/approval processes; consolidation of IG related activities at departmental level; liaison with relevant central University and external organisations; and IG advice related to cloud based processing and high-throughput computing. Responsibilities • • • • • • • • • • • • • Advise and lead the Paediatrics senior management team in developing, embedding and maintaining corporate policies and procedures relating to Information Governance and security in a complex clinical environment. Manage the writing and maintenance of policies, procedures and guidance related to Information Governance within Paediatrics. Oversee and ensure the amalgamation, completion, submission and maintenance of the annual NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) submission across the department Advise and support senior staff in ensuring compliance with Information Governance, data access, information sharing, records management, information security and associated requirements. Supervise and curate the Information Asset Register, providing advice to Information Asset Owners as required. Liaise with and advise senior academic staff, clinical trial managers, and other operational staff on Information Governance related audits of assets held at Paediatrics. Track, maintain and present audit reports and actions needed to achieve compliance against policies, applicable regulations and findings. The audit reports will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of the flows of data through complex clinical trials, document any information governance issues and proposed solutions. Evaluation of departmental Information Governance training requirements, ensuring delivery of appropriate training sessions, quality assurance and reporting against departmental KPI’s. Manage the contributions of other Paediatrics staff, including line management duties. Ensure day to day operational requirements are met, including providing advice on Information Governance issues, delivery of training and completion of audits. Keeping up to date with related legislation and best practice in order to ensure policy review and change for continued compliance. Liaise with local and national groups with respect to Information Governance and security, and represent Paediatrics in meetings at local and national level.
