We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical research assistant/practitioner to support an exciting research programme focused on the development and validation of novel technologies for the non-invasive detection of coronary inflammation and vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques.

The project will involve working primarily on a large multi-centre clinical study (the ORFAN study) that involves recruitment of patients referred for a cardiac CT scan. The study aims to assess the inflammation around the coronary arteries and understand the risk of having future cardiovascular events as well as discovering and validating novel imaging biomarkers, with the potential to change clinical practice. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of clinical cardiologists, clinician scientists, radiologists, radiographers and engineers, and will have the opportunity to translate new applications coming from the basic science labs of the group directly into clinical applications. You will be expected to also work on other research projects that are run within the Acute Multidisciplinary Imaging and Interventional Centre (AMIIC), at the John Radcliffe hospital, Oxford.

The main responsibilities of the role include recruiting patients, spinning blood samples, assisting in organising cardiac CT scans, data collection, and data entry. You will take part in the academic activity of the Department, e.g. contributing to scientific meetings, presentations and working collaboratively to help to realise the ambitious research programme that is underway.

You are required to hold a degree in relevant subject e.g. Biological Sciences and have previous experience of working on clinical research studies/clinical trials. Well-developed clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation, ECG would be desirable

This is a full time appointment on a fixed term contract for 2 years funded by NIHR BRC and the BHF and you will be based at the Acute Multidisciplinary Imaging and Interventional Centre (AMIIC), John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online; you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement which explains how you meet the selection criteria for the post.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 03 November 2023 can be considered. Interviews are scheduled to place on 17 November 2023.
