We are looking for a highly motivated and creative individual for a Senior Marketing Executive role within our Marketing and Insights Team. You will be an integral part of our marketing team, working together to lead the strategic planning, support, and delivery of integrated multi-channel marketing campaigns to promote regular giving for the University of Oxford.

 

About the role:

 

You will create exciting, innovative marketing campaigns and fundraising appeals that inform supporters and encourage donations, through collaboration with senior stakeholders across the University. You will be able to interpret the insights and analyse the results to support continuous learning and increase the success of our fundraising and engagement campaigns.

 

You will manage the creative process for all marketing materials, ensuring that work is executed to a high standard, with clear and cohesive messages. You will also provide strategic advice and operational support for key stakeholders, sharing knowledge and insights on marketing and supporting the best use of our DARS CRM database and audience segmentation.

 

About you:

 

We are looking for an experienced marketer with excellent communication and organisational skills. You will have experience in strategic thinking based on sound data, and an analytical approach to campaign development.

 

Our marketer would have strong project management skills and be able to work to campaign deadlines, while liaising across internal and external stakeholders. Ability to liaise with senior stakeholders across the University to deliver successful campaigns is key.

 

Whilst the role is a Grade 8 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential, but less experience, who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 7 (£36,024– £48,350 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. The Development Office works in partnership with academic and development colleagues throughout the collegiate University to build enduring relationships with external constituencies – including alumni, non-alumni, corporate and foundation donors – and to increase financial support for agreed academic priorities. The Development Office is led by Liesl Elder, Chief Development Officer, who reports to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Development and External Affairs. The Development Office is part of the central administrative departments of the University, collectively known as University Administration and Services (UAS) and works closely with the offices responsible for Alumni Relations, International Strategy, Public Affairs and Finfance. In 2019, the University and the colleges completed the Oxford Thinking Campaign, which raised £3.34bn, and is the most successful fundraising campaign in higher education in Europe. The University is currently planning its next major campaign, and as a member of the Development Office, the post holder will have a key role to play in helping realise its successful delivery. In addition to fundraising staff, the Development Office has a number of teams that cover particular support functions. These include the Donor Relations team (which ensures that donors are thanked and the University’s relationships with them appropriately stewarded); the Events team (which arranges high-level and bespoke events for donors and potential donors); the Research Team (which gathers information on potential and existing donors); the Development and Alumni Relations System (DARS) Support Centre (which supports the Development and Alumni Relations database); and the Communications team (which ensures that major and principal donors are made aware of the University’s strategic fundraising priorities through tailored communications, including bespoke proposals and project information). It also works closely with the Gift Registry, part of the Finance Division, which records and processes donations received by the University and on behalf of colleges. The Marketing and Insights team provides expertise in marketing strategy and tactics, data, and the use of the shared CRM system, DARS, guiding teams within the University of Oxford Development Office (UODO) and colleagues working in Development and Alumni Relations roles across the collegiate University. As well as managing a programme of multi-channel marketing campaigns and supporting fundraising and stewardship priorities, the team is expert in the use of DARS, the Development and Alumni Relations System, and the data within it. The Marketing and Insights team works closely with DARS Support Centre teams to ensure: that colleagues working in Development and Alumni Relations are able to get the most value from DARS; that data from DARS is transformed into insights to inform strategy and planning; and to continuously improve processes and the use of data and technology to support development goals, whilst ensuring the best possible supporter experience and compliance with regulation, legislation and the collegiate University’s relationship management protocols. The focus of the Senior Marketing Executive role is to take a lead role in the strategic planning, support, and delivery of end-to-end integrated multi-channel marketing campaigns to meet the goals for individual/regular giving across UODO divisional and pan-University teams. They will be plan and execute campaigns in line with best-practice pertaining to data regulatory and legislative requirements; and develop and report on success metrics for campaign performance and ROI to inform future campaign planning activity. It is expected that the post-holder will become an expert user of the Development and Alumni Relations CRM database, DARS. The post holder will be able to use the support services provided (accounting, database, communications, stewardship and research). The post holder will be based in central Oxford, but they may be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with their line manager. The line manager will regularly review progress. There may be opportunities for career development within the University Development structure. Responsibilities The duties of the post are set out as they are envisaged at present, but it will be important for the person appointed to be versatile and adaptable, and able to contribute to the development of the fundraising function of the collegiate University. The main duties of this post will be as follows: 1. 3 Marketing Campaign Planning and Execution • Lead strategic planning, development and management of integrated marketing plans to meet goals for regular giving across UODO teams serving academic divisions and pan-University teams (gardens, libraries, museums, student support, and sport). In collaboration with Heads of Development across UODO and with senior academics and leaders in academic divisions, across the gardens, libraries and museums, make decisions on the programme of multi-channel fundraising campaigns supporting University priorities. Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills will be required to gain the support of all involved and agreement from key decision makers. Review and revise the strategy on an annual basis and produce related operational plans. • Recommend and agree the objectives, strategy, timing, budget and measurement for planned activities. This will include messaging, segmentation, marketing mix/channels, ensuring the best possible use of available data and functionality available in DARS (Blackbaud’s enterprise CRM system). The post-holder will be expected to promote an increased focus on digital marketing activity, including web, social media, and crowdfunding. • Lead creative vision for all materials for marketing with clear, cohesive and accurate marketing messages, copy, visuals, format design (print and/or digital) ensuring that work is executed to a high standard and in a way that is appropriate to the campaign. 2. 3. • Engage relevant stakeholders/subject matter experts in the development of creative – this will include colleagues working in the University academic divisions, libraries, museums and collections, and beyond, as well as UODO fundraising colleagues and other experts working in the Communications and Donor Relations teams. • Project manage the operational delivery of all direct marketing activity within your agreed remit, collaborating with appropriate stakeholders to create briefs and agree, develop and maintain a campaign calendar for the year, sharing this with colleagues across the Development Office and wider University. • Provide strategic advice, approval and operational support for colleagues in UODO to make the best possible use of DARS functionality and data, including the use of templated approaches for simpler communications activities • Oversee data segmentation on the DARS database appropriate to campaign objectives, collaborating with Senior Data and Insights Executive to ensure the right audiences are approached at the right time with the right messages, and to find appropriate solutions when complexities arise. • Manage relationships with all suppliers (designers, printers, mailing houses, digital developers) to plan and coordinate the timely and efficient delivery of campaigns. • Ensure all marketing activities executed are compliant with current legislation, regulation and internal policies.
