It currently includes about 200 researchers ranging from DPhil students to postdoctoral researchers and academics working in 26 departments, schools and institutes across the University. The largest numbers are in Physics, Mathematics, Earth Sciences and Geography, and there is increasing engagement of researchers beyond the physical sciences. The goal of the network is to raise the impact, effectiveness and profile of climate research at the University of Oxford, by acting as an internal hub as well as a coordinated point of contact and information for those beyond Oxford. The OCRN has a Coordinator (50% FTE) who develops and administers initiatives which maintain, strengthen and promote the network. We now seek a Policy and Comms Officer (50% FTE) to work on a range of outward facing initiatives and ensure maximum impact and uptake of Oxford climate research. Responsibilities Responsibilities: • • • • • • • • • Identify and engage with a range of stakeholders to develop and then facilitate opportunities for Oxford climate researchers to contribute to regional, national and international government policy. Write, edit, proofread and professionally deliver promotional material for a range of audiences, to raise the profile of climate research conducted at Oxford. Plan and organise events at which Oxford climate researchers can learn more about how climate research can feed into policy, can interact with policy-makers and can build links with relevant stakeholders. Facilitate OCRN’s engagement with the Oxford Policy Engagement Network (OPEN) by acting as a point of contact for subject matter experts on policy questions, and providing tailored advice and training where appropriate. Support the University’s engagement with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, before, during and after COP meetings. Support and develop existing and new University initiatives on climate education for students and the public. Select and implement appropriate methods for evaluating these activities, analysing the results to inform future strategy. Acquire and maintain an overview of climate-related research at the University of Oxford, so as to connect up individuals, research groups and initiatives wherever appropriate. Work with the OCRN Coordinator to deliver networking events and initiatives that bring together climate researchers across the breadth of the OCRN network. Be an active member of the University’s Communication Officers network in order to share information, promote best practise and ensure cross-University communications are coordinated. The OCRN Policy and Comms Officer will report to the Steering Group which decides the priorities for the network. They will meet regularly with the network’s Academic Convener (who is Chair of the Steering Group) and Coordinator, and are expected to help develop and provide support for new initiatives as they arise.
