The role We are seeking to appoint an experienced Configuration Manager for the high profile HARMONI instrumentation project in which Oxford plays a leading role. HARMONI is a new astronomical instrument (adaptive optics assisted near-infrared integral field spectrograph) currently being developed for the under-construction “European Extremely Large Telescope” (ELT) – the largest telescope ever built. The ELT project is an international collaboration, involving over 200 engineers and scientists from nearly ten countries around the world. The HARMONI instrument development is led by Oxford and the UKATC, Edinburgh. Oxford hosts the project DMS, and is responsible for co-ordinating Configuration Management across the project. The project is large, long, and complex – meaning proper Configuration Management is vital to its overall success. As the project approaches the completion of the final design phase and prepares for construction, we are seeking to appoint an experienced Configuration Manager to lead the Configuration Management processes for the consortium, and help the engineering team deliver a high-quality instrument which will in turn enable ground-breaking science. There is scope within the role to become involved in Configuration Management and Quality Assurance for other Oxford Physics projects on longer timescales. Responsibilities This role will lead configuration management activities across the project team, and you will have the following specific responsibilities;  Own the consortium Configuration Management plan  Co-ordinate overall project Configuration Management System  Ensure the product Configuration Item Data List is maintained and up-to-date  Oversee the Change Management process, ensuring the inevitable changes to Configuration Items are properly assessed, recorded, and implemented.  Guide the implementation of Configuration Management best practice within the project Document Management System  Lead the improvement and evolution of Configuration Management tools and processes over the project life time  Conduct Configuration Audits as appropriate (e.g. before stage-gate reviews)  Provide guidance on Configuration Management best practice to other consortium partners In addition, general responsibilities of the role include:  Report on Configuration Status and progress through the project reporting structure  Attend project meetings (European travel required), presenting on configuration management as appropriate  Contribute to a configuration management viewpoint to project reviews (i.e. internal review documentation)  Provide input to Quality Assurance processes 170782 JD and Person Spec Config Manager[1].docx 2 Pre-employment screening All offers of employment are made subject to standard pre-employment screening, as applicable to the post.
