The role This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated organic chemist with a keen interest in taking scientific discovery towards application. The project will explore substrate scope for chemo-bio catalytic hydrogenation systems, establishing selectivity, and exploring different reactors for both batch and continuous flow operation and for scale-up of reactions over a range of industrially-relevant conditions. Some design of substrate libraries and their synthesis will be required. Opportunities to learn skills in enzyme preparation and biocatalysis will be available. This project forms part of a knowledge exchange facility hosted between the Universities of Bath and Oxford: the Innovation Centre for Applied and Sustainable Technologies (iCAST). iCAST builds on the world-class research of the Universities of Bath and Oxford focussed on chemistry-using and chemical process-based innovation that will enable companies to easily invest in R&D and provide specialist business support for innovation to be deployed commercially. iCAST aims to enable UK companies to scale up, deliver economic impact, and build supply chains, jobs and growth in the UK. In this role, you will have opportunities to interact with a vibrant inter-disciplinary team delivering the technical elements of the iCAST innovation programme, with industrial partners, end users and customers. By joining iCAST, you will also have the opportunity to use a wide range of new state-of-theart equipment available to the project; and participate in training and engagement events at the iCAST Creative Hub facility in Swindon. A strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and excellent analytical skills are essential to this role. The successful applicant will also have good technical, organisational and presentation skills and the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary environment. Responsibilities 1. Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. Hold a PhD in Chemistry or a related area (or be close to completion), prior to taking up the appointment. 2. Have significant research experience in synthetic organic chemistry. 3. Have excellent skills in collecting and interpreting analytical data, in particular from NMR, HPLC and GC for characterisation of organic molecules and reaction monitoring. 4. Be able to demonstrate competence and success in the thesis research area (and postdoctoral work if appropriate), e.g. as judged by publications (or papers in press) in high quality peer reviewed journals. About the role 

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Catalysis for Organic Hydrogenations to work under the supervision of Professor Kylie Vincent for a period of up to 12 months.  The project involves research and development in the area of chemo/bio catalysis for hydrogenation of nitrogen-containing compounds. The project is funded through the Innovation Centre for Applied and Sustainable Technologies (iCAST), run between the Universities of Bath and Oxford. The Vincent group are a diverse and collaborative team of researchers who work together to unite chemo and bio catalysis to provide innovative solutions for more sustainable chemical synthesis.

About you 

Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry (or be close to completion) prior to taking up the appointment. The research requires expertise in organic synthesis, and skill in analytical methods including NMR, GC and HPLC, and an interest in sustainable chemistry. Ideally you will also have experience in catalysis and hydrogenation reactions. You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines and to interact with iCAST consortium. 

 

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, OX1 3QR and is available as soon as possible.

"""**About the role** Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Catalysis for Organic Hydrogenations to work under the supervision of Professor Kylie Vincent for a period of up to 12 months. The project involves research and development in the area of chemo/bio catalysis for hydrogenation of nitrogen- containing compounds. The project is funded through the Innovation Centre for Applied and Sustainable Technologies (iCAST), run between the Universities of Bath and Oxford. The Vincent group are a diverse and collaborative team of researchers who work together to unite chemo and bio catalysis to provide innovative solutions for more sustainable chemical synthesis. Find out more about the Vincent research and group here **About you** Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry (or be close to completion) prior to taking up the appointment. The research requires expertise in organic synthesis, and skill in analytical methods including NMR, GC and HPLC, and an interest in sustainable chemistry. Ideally you will also have experience in catalysis and hydrogenation reactions. You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines and to interact with iCAST consortium.
