The Head of MBA Student Engagement will play a pivotal role in shaping the co-curricular experience for our MBA students. Working closely with the Associate Director, MBA Programme Delivery, you will spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing student engagement, diversity and inclusion within our MBA programme. This role demands exceptional communication skills, strategic thinking and the ability to collaborate effectively across various departments and stakeholders.

 

Key responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement a comprehensive co-curricular strategy in alignment with the evolving needs of our MBA programme.

  • Manage and delegate tasks to junior colleagues within the programme team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including faculty, to secure input and support for co-curricular activities.

  • Co-lead the delivery of MBA Launch and Capstone events, along with supporting other in-year events.

  • Organise and facilitate student forum meetings, presenting as required, to gather feedback and address student concerns.


You should possess a demonstrable understanding of the MBA market and exhibit exceptional communication skills. You must also demonstrate proven project management abilities, including meeting deadlines and managing stakeholder expectations effectively. Additionally, you should have prior management experience with a track record of developing and supporting team members.

As the delivery of the core programme is evolving, there is increased opportunity to further enrich the co- curricular programme, working on several initiatives from supporting distinct pathways for students, to the diversity and inclusion agenda and more. This role will require collaboration across numerous areas of the school, from the careers function to co-curricular centres and beyond. It will enable the Associate Director and MBA Programme Director to continue the implementation of a changing year ahead as the school looks to further review its curriculum and co-curricular experience and helping the management team to create a comprehensive roadmap for students to engage with other departments and speakers throughout the wider university. The MBA Programme requires a high level and standard of communication and engagement with the 320 students enrolled on the programme. As the student experience has become more complex there is an increasing need for strategic support in communicating with students and helping them navigate and embed their initiatives within the school’s structure. You will be responsible for the management of the Co-curriculum team within MBA Programmes. You will directly line manage the Communications Manager, Senior Programme Manager – Student Experience Lead and the MBA Events Programme Support Manager. Student relationships are largely managed by this role, along with the Associate Director, MBA Programme Delivery and MBA Programme Director depending on the nature of the enquiry. The day to day running of the programme is managed by the academic delivery team. The post will work closely with the management team across the department to deliver key outcomes and help guide student initiatives, from OBN events to student-led conferences and competitions. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with enthusiasm and drive, who will work with students, other members of the MBA programme team, and wider school teams to follow up on town hall issues, create student feedback groups and ensure initiatives are governed within the guidelines of the school. You will play a key role in linking up the communication between the four sections of the class, working with the director to ensure a good flow of information, regular meetings between programme teams and sections and timely follow up. You will lead workshops on student experience issues with the Associate Director, MBA Programme Delivery and MBA Director and be able to manage student engagement projects with efficiency, tact, and clear communication. The MBA Programme team operates a matrix structure, and you will work closely with all other colleagues in the team, including providing ad hoc support for programme launch and events as required. Responsibilities • Play the leading role, working closely with the management team of the department, in further developing the co-curricular strategy, ensuring appropriate consultation and agreement across many internal stakeholders. • Work closely with co-curricular areas of the school, developing and then presenting the overarching strategy to colleagues and faculty. • Take the lead on, and be responsible for, project management and overall coordination of co- curricular developments, with accountability for deliverables each academic year. • • • • Manage and delegate tasks to other junior colleagues in the programme team under the matrix structure, to execute the strategy and plan. ‘Manage upwards’ to secure engaged and timely input from other key stakeholders in the school including faculty. Work closely with the management team on co-curricular activities designed to give students access to and benefit from the relationship with the wider university. Take the lead on the embedding and operationalization of new co-curricular projects and be a pivotal figure in creating a rich Oxford experience for students who will, in future, have more free time due to exciting new changes in teaching delivery in the year ahead. Work closely with the Communications Manager to develop and implement a student communication plan for MBA students (around 340 students, with high-level expectations) with a view to ensuring regular and effective communication, linked to initiatives. • Work alongside the Events Support Manager to co-lead the delivery of MBA Launch and Capstone, along with supporting other in year events. • Organise and manage student forum meetings, presenting in these as required, and liaise closely with the Senior Programme Manager who coordinates student council meetings. • Support the Communications Manager with the continuous improvement of the Experience Cloud ‘MBA Portal’. • Drive forward further automation for query and email management utilising Salesforce/Experience Cloud Technology • Assist the management team to drive forward the student engagement strategy. • Work closely to lead the various student groups (OBNs and other organisations such as Alliances) and colleagues who coordinate these groups, and lead and project manage co- curricular initiatives emanating from them. • Take a pre-emptive approach in anticipating student demands in the short to medium and be mindful of the longer-term impact of decision-making on the school’s overall strategy for the MBA. • Work with the Programme Director, Associate Director, class and alumni relations to create better connections between years and different programmes (MFE, EMBA etc.) • Take a prominent role in the continued integration of Experience Cloud functionality and work across the school to ensure that student communication and platforms are well integrated. • Work closely with the team around you to manage student concerns, and improve communications, including communicating back, “You said, we did” to the Student Council and the wider class. This includes playing the pivotal role between different parts of the school to ensure the internal teams are joined up and collaborating to best effect. • Work with the management team to run student workshops, focus groups, surveys etc. • Work across the MBA Programme Team but also other areas of the school, such as the centres, to ensure students are aware of and able to engage fully with the co-curriculum. • • • On occasion you may be asked to represent the school at external events to promote and represent the MBA. Other tasks commensurate with the grade as requested by the management team. Selection criteria Essential selection criteria • A demonstrable and proven understanding of the MBA market • Exceptional communication skills • Proven project management skills including the ability to deliver to deadlines and manage stakeholder expectations. • Proven management experience with the ability to develop, support and encourage other team members. • Proficient in Microsoft Office including PPT, Excel and Word; general capability to take on and learn new software and platforms to enhance the student experience. • Excellent organisational skills, ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment • Collaborative, excellent relationship-builder to work across teams, faculty, and students and ‘manage upwards’ as required. • Excellent problem-solver – able to work in an entrepreneurial way but within the confines of the wider divisional and university structure. Desirable selection criteria • Ability to write and develop Canvas / Experience Cloud content sites or to learn how to do this quickly. • Proven ability to operate in a cross departmental capacity with multiple stakeholders. • Event management skills.
