About the role

The Carvalho Lab is recruiting postdoctoral researchers to investigate the mechanisms of protein degradation using cell biology, biochemistry and structural biology approaches.  You will join a diverse group of researchers working on several aspects of organelle biology at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford (UK).

The main goals of these 2-year positions are: 1) to uncover how membrane proteins are degraded by a process called ERAD; 2) to reveal how ERAD of specific substrates regulates diverse physiological processes such as nuclear envelope dynamics, lipid homeostasis or antigen presentation.

You will be a self-motivated and enthusiastic scientist with a PhD (or be close to completion of PhD) in a relevant field, with a strong background in cell biology, biochemistry or structural biology. We are looking for scientists with a solid publication record aiming to work as part of a friendly, diverse and supportive team, and with a clear career goal.

For further information please contact Pedro Carvalho via email: pedro.carvalho@path.ox.ac.uk or visit the group's website.

About the Dunn School

Located in the main campus of the University of Oxford, the Dunn School is composed of ~35 research groups focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying human health and enables access to a variety of cutting edge research facilities. The Dunn School is a friendly and collegiate place to work. We believe that the best science happens when everyone is respected and supported; and their achievements are valued and celebrated. We place a particular focus on wellbeing initiatives and have a zero tolerance to bullying or harassment.  We are aware of our environmental responsibilities, and are at the forefront of the movement to make lab-based research more sustainable.

The Dunn School has pride in supporting its postdocs and research staff in their career ambitions. It has a comprehensive postdoc career development programme that includes, among other things, a mentoring scheme, access to a range of courses and training, intradepartmental small grants, teaching experience and networking opportunities (such as hosting invited speakers), etc.

The Dunn School offers a range of family friendly policies and practices including a generous, day-one entitlement, to maternity, paternity, parental, carer and adoption leave.  Dunn School staff benefit from generous caring leave arrangements, can take advantage of nursery fee salary sacrifice schemes and access to University nurseries and to holiday play schemes. For more information about the Department please visit: http://www.path.ox.ac.uk.
