This post is located in the Graduate Admissions and Recruitment office, which is based at the University Offices, Wellington Square. The office is part of the Academic Administration Division (AAD), one of the largest units within the University Administration and Services.

 

We are seeking a committed and experienced full-time Graduate Access and Widening Participation Officer within the Graduate Admissions and Recruitment Office. This is an exciting new role in a fast-evolving area with responsibility for the planning, coordination and delivery of the UNIQ+ research internships programme.

About the Role

We are looking for an engaged and committed individual to join the Graduate Admissions and Recruitment Office on a full-time basis for a five-year fixed-term post. This is a pivotal new role with particular responsibility for the planning and delivery of the UNIQ+ research internships programme, which will grow in scale from 2026.

 

The post-holder will manage and co-ordinate work on graduate access, recruitment and widening participation programmes (primarily UNIQ+) across the collegiate University, liaising with a range of stakeholders. They will also support the development and delivery of a revised format of UNIQ+ from 2026. As well as the existing residential programme, this may expand to include initiatives such as different formats for different subject areas, further online content, mentoring, and other initiatives throughout the year.

The post-holder will report to the Graduate Access and Widening Participation Manager and will work with the existing Graduate Access and Widening Participation Officer with whom the post-holder will share a similar job description. These posts are part of the Graduate Student Recruitment team within the Graduate Admissions and Recruitment Office The post-holder will play a pivotal role in coordinating work which takes place across the whole collegiate University. They will liaise with a range of stakeholders across the University, departments and colleges. The post-holder will need to be proactive, detailed and flexible in their approach, and very organised. They will be confident working independently, but also as part of a team. Strong administrative skills and experience of managing projects and events and working under pressure are essential. A genuine commitment to access, diversity and widening participation will also be key. As graduate access is an emerging and growing area of interest for the collegiate University, this is an exciting time to be involved in these initiatives, and there will be opportunity for the postholder to contribute to shaping new activity, in addition to developing and supporting the existing UNIQ+ programme. The post-holder may occasionally be required to undertake work outside standard working hours, either in the evenings or at weekends, in order to deliver activity related to the role; this usually occurs during the UNIQ+ during the UNIQ+ programme itself in July and August, and to support graduate admissions work in January. They may also be required, occasionally, to travel within the UK to support graduate recruitment activity. The post is fixed term for five years. Responsibilities 1. Plan, coordinate and deliver large graduate access, recruitment and widening participation programmes (primarily the UNIQ+ programme) and support the development and delivery of a revised format of UNIQ+ from 2026. As well as the existing residential programme, this may expand to include initiatives such as different formats for different subject areas, further online content, mentoring, and other initiatives throughout the year. 2. Manage, coordinate and provide administrative support for all aspects of the UNIQ+ programme. This will include developing the application form and updating website information, requesting and coordinating project information from across the whole University, organising a range of events from talks to dinners (from sourcing topics and speakers to all practicalities of delivering events), supporting the processing of University card forms, as well as travel and accommodation arrangements, and any other administrative tasks as required. 3. Establish budget for relevant activity, ensuring expenses are kept on budget and keeping track of expenses and receipts. The UNIQ+ programme has an overall budget of c. £1million p.a. 4. Support the admissions process for UNIQ+, including application processing and assessment, and preparing and issuing decisions letters. This will include managing applicant information (currently hosted on SharePoint online) so it is accurate and up to date at all times, coordinating work between divisional offices and a high number of assessors, and ensuring activity is delivered within strict timeframes. 5. Co-ordinate and manage welfare and disability support for programme participants, liaising with the Disability Advisory Service, supervisors, departments and colleges, and setting up meetings, as required. 6. Co-ordinate and manage arrangements with colleges, particularly in terms of events and accommodation, working with colleges to resolve any issues. 7. Manage communications with applicants and interns, as well as internal communications with a high number of stakeholders in departments, colleges and central teams, including delivering presentations and drafting reports. Provide a very high standard of customer service to all, including University staff at all levels of seniority. 8. Prepare agendas, minutes, papers, data and reports for meetings and committees, following up on actions and coordinating work. 9. Review and evaluate processes and graduate access programme activities including designing surveys, analysing results, presenting data, and identifying gaps and making recommendations for future improvement. 10. Supervise team members when involved in supporting UNIQ+ activity, as well as any temporary staff, providing training as necessary and monitoring work. 11. Selection criteria Essential selection criteria 1. Educated to degree level or equivalent experience. 2. Proven experience of managing, delivering and reviewing administrative activity which involves a high number of processes as well as stakeholders. 3. Experience of organising and delivering events, on time and to budget. 4. Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills and the ability to work under pressure and to a deadline, with the ability to manage competing priorities. 5.
