OxSTaR is committed to excellence in training healthcare practitioners in a wide range of technical and non-technical skills using simulation as a tool to embed best practice and improve patient safety. Healthcare simulation is a fusion of healthcare and technology, both of which are continually updating, changing, and finding new pathways for innovation. Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is a fast-developing area of adult education with many new technologies being employed to enhance learning platforms as well as offer new modalities such as Virtual Reality. The centre has an active teaching and research program with an ambition to become a leading centre within the simulation field. The centre has a full range of hi-fidelity manikins including adults, children and neonate and also a range of part task trainers. OxSTaR has also been at the forefront of introducing virtual reality into the medical curriculum. The Director of the centre leads a team of medical, technical and administrative staff. The centre has a dedicated full-time manager who is responsible for day-to-day management combined with contributing and implementing future projects. OxSTaR are looking to recruit a simulation technician who will assist the team to provide technical support for all training operations. This includes preparation, maintenance and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware), part task trainers and related multimedia to deliver high standard courses and for the upkeep of the facilities. The technician role is an essential member of the team. Responsibilities • • • • • • • • • • • Delivering and assisting in delivering in centre or off-site training sessions as technical support Managing the setup and transition of the simulated environment during training sessions Support the team to recreate clinical scenarios in the simulation room to closely resemble a realistic clinical setting. The range of complexity and involvement will increase with experience. This will include role playing a patient whilst controlling the physiological parameters of the manikin. Operating and providing first line technical support for computer based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of cameras, audio/video mixer, monitors, projectors and other equipment, including maintaining video and other data archives Set up and troubleshoot VR workstations Coordinating the feedback using developed processes Carrying out a rolling programme of maintenance and servicing to ensure equipment and simulation spaces are operational Under direction program, test and run clinical scenarios Help maintain the wide variety of part task trainers Help maintain adequate stocks of part task trainer consumables Undertake other duties in the department from time to time as determined commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of this post, and any other reasonable request Selection criteria Essential selection criteria • • • • • • • • • • • • = Capacity to learn new software and hardware quickly and then apply this knowledge Ability to assess and troubleshoot equipment failures in a timely fashion Competence to troubleshoot basic computer issues and confident to update applications Experience of website content management Experience of Visual/Audio Editing including using applications like 3DVista or equivalent Understanding of networking principles Must be able to maintain confidentiality Ability to work with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and different levels of training Flexible and collaborative attitude, with ability to work well under pressure Clear and cogent written and verbal communication Ability to work independently and also be a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team of staff High level of competence with MS software applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet, and database use Desirable selection criteria • • • • Experience in a health-related field with an understanding of anatomy and physiology Have experience in film /AV Previous clinical simulation experience Interest in amateur dramatics .
