About the role

The Youth Programme Leader role is an exciting opportunity to join the public engagement team at Oxford University Museum of Natural History. This is a team with a reputation for excellence and innovation within an organisation that strives to communicate and celebrate the sciences of the natural environment.

 

This is a part-time post (18.75 hours per week) for 12 months.

 

Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced level of DBS check.

 

About You

We are looking for an energetic and passionate person with a passion for and expertise in natural history to further develop and deliver the informal learning programme for young people. You will create interesting, relevant and varied activities for young people between the ages of ten and nineteen years from diverse backgrounds.

You will be supported by the Museum’s Head of Education and Learning and work alongside two newly appointed Youth Mentors.

The museum’s public engagement team works closely with the collections and research teams to deliver a wide range of programming to diverse audiences. The museum’s programme for young people is comprehensive and well established. We are looking for an energetic and passionate person to further develop and deliver the informal learning programme for young people. This person will be appointed alongside two post graduate students and two undergraduate interns keen to share their natural history expertise and a desire to develop their public engagement planning and delivery skills. Responsibilities  Plan and deliver eight engaging Saturday sessions for a group of twelve 14 to 16-year olds.  Plan and deliver monthly Youth Forum sessions for 16 to 19-year olds.  Plan and deliver the museum’s targeted three-week work experience summer scheme.  Plan and deliver five workshops for people aged between 10 and 14 years in the school holidays.  Manage the activities of two post-graduate Youth Mentors (2 x 17.5 days of additional support).  Manage the activities of two undergraduate placement students on a five- week summer placement.  Work alongside the Head of Education and Learning to develop the museum’s youth programme. Oxford University Museum of Natural History Oxford University Museum of Natural History was opened in 1860 and houses the University’s extensive scientific holdings of natural history, which are used for research, teaching, and public engagement with science.
