Additional information The catering operations primarily take place at Kellogg College at Banbury Road in Oxford though you may be required to work on other sites should the need arise. Your normal working pattern might require you to work Saturdays, Sundays, evenings, and Bank Holidays The role Kellogg College’s waiting staff provide a high-quality catering service to the students, staff, fellows, and guests of the College. You will report to the Dining Hall Manager. An interesting and varied role, your duties will include dayto-day training and supervision of the College’s food service team and ensuring the provision of the highest standards of service across a wide range of food and beverage products whilst maintaining a service environment that is professional and always welcoming. You will be liaising closely with all departments across the College, and frequently communicating with the wider catering, hospitality, and events teams. You will also have day-to-day contact with Fellows, students, staff and visitors within the College, and being able to develop good working relationships both within the College and with external visitors and guests will be essential. The College catering operation is busiest during Oxford University term times with quieter times in August, over Easter and when the College closes over Christmas and New Year. The average working hours for the Dining Hall Team are variable but may be between 36.5-40 hours per week. Shifts will vary to cover the hours of business and include weekend (including bank holidays), and evening work. The role requires a hands-on approach, with the ability to manage a varied workload under minimal supervision and a willingness to work flexibly as part of the wider team. You may be required to work at other sites across the College or at non-College sites for functions and events that the College is hosting. Responsibilities • Serve food and drink to customers, answering basic queries and responding to customer feedback as required, including providing tea and coffee service, delivering refreshments as requested to the common rooms, meeting rooms or offices, and bar tending for events and dinners as required. • Pre-empt problems with catering production and service and act to avert them, making suggestions to the Manager for the enhancement and improvement of the catering operations or facilities. • Provide day to day training and supervision of Catering Assistants, Wating Staff and Till Staff, ensuring that core duties are carried out to a high standard • Stock and replenish food/drink display counters, buffets, and vending machines, perform regular stocktaking and rotation of stock. • Order supplies when required, in accordance with University and College purchasing guidelines as required. Liaise with suppliers and the Hospitality office to ensure stocks for the day ahead are at the levels required and ensure the quality of food and drinks • Set up tables in the restaurant ensuring that all necessary items are present and laid neatly to the correct standard.; Move and arrange the tables and chairs in the restaurant according to the reservations and their specific requirements. Assist with meeting room and events setup, arrangement of furniture and equipment. • Ensure that tables are cleared and crockery, glassware, cooking utensils, equipment are cleaned to a high standard • Support the Middle Common Room (MCR – student body) with bar operations and ensure compliance with licensing regulations; report any issues to line manager. • Ensure that Food Safety and relevant Health & Safety legislation including COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health) regulations are complied with • Assist with laundry delivery and stock of linen and uniforms • Take responsibility for any keys ensuring that they are always signed in and out. • Report via writing the Guest Night Dinner attendance to the Dining Hall Manager. • Any other reasonable duties as requested by your line manager or manager on duty e.g., Attend staff meetings and training courses; assist or carry out kitchen porter duties such as washing and cleaning kitchen equipment and restaurant service crockery, cutlery, and glassware.
