The project will investigate the molecular and evolutionary biology underpinning antibiotic tolerance with the goal of developing new methods to eradicate antibiotic tolerant bacteria. The post-holder will be responsible for managing own academic research and administrative activities. You will plan and execute experimental work applying multiple techniques including antimicrobial susceptibility testing, laboratory evolution, whole-genome sequencing and microscopy to investigate the mechanisms and evolution of antibiotic tolerance in _Escherichia coli_. You will assess hypotheses, troubleshoot or adjust experimental works when needed, and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources. The post-holder should hold, or be close to completion of, PhD/DPhil in a relevant subject (microbiology, molecular biology, microbial genomics, or a related field). You will have prior experience working with bacteria and antibiotics and have an excellent understanding of antimicrobial resistance/tolerance mechanisms. You will have proven skills in molecular microbiology and genetics techniques and/or microbial genome sequencing and bioinformatics demonstrated by first author publications in scientific journals. The post-holder should be organised, highly motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team. This is a fixed-term appointment available for 2 years in the first instance. If you are interested in this role, and have the skills and experience we are looking for, please apply online.
