We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician /Post-doctoral research assistant to ensure the smooth running of a translational programme of work in the division of Cardiovascular Medicine in Oxford, that aims to characterize the clinical phenotype of patients with and without coronary artery disease (CAD) and that relies on the Oxford Heart Vessels and Fat (ox- HVF) Programme. The post-holder will join the The Oxford Translational Cardiovascular Research Group and take part in the research activities working collaboratively to help to realise this ambitious research project that is funded by a pharmaceutical company. RESPONSIBILITIES • Prepare buffers and reagents • Perform routine molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction, PCR and qRT-PCR • Perform protein techniques such as ELISA assays, and immunoblotting • Perform cell biology techniques including mammalian cell culture • To manage day-to-day research duties, including taking responsibility for planning tasks and experiments and ensuring these are executed promptly and to deadlines • Maintain accurate records of lab-based experimental work • Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory, e.g. by ensuring equipment is functioning and monitoring and ordering stock as necessary • Maintain equipment, including washing, sterilisation and disposal, perform quality checks and contribute to the general cleanliness and upkeep of the laboratory space • Assist with inductions and training of colleagues or students • Keep up to date with and advise on matters relating to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Health and Safety, COSHH sheets and other regulations relevant to the post.
