The programme’s mission is to provide substantial expertise and added-value to research within Oxford by training biomedical scientists in the data science and computational biology skills required to analyse and interpret their own genomic data sets. We are looking for an enthusiastic team-player, with a keen interest in keeping up with the latest advances in data science and computational biology, who will play a key role in the training of biomedical scientists in software development best practices, data analysis skills and computational biology methods. They will also have the opportunity to be involved in computational biology research projects within the Sims lab at the MRC WIMM Centre for Computational Biology. This post would be an excellent opportunity for individuals from a computational background looking to apply their software development / data analysis skills in a biomedical research and training setting, where they can have both scientific and medical impact, or computational biologists wishing to develop their skills in training, software engineering, data science and high-performance computing. Responsibilities • Manage own training and administrative activities. This includes small scale project management, to coordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines • Organise training schedules and develop, improve and maintain training materials on computational biology and biomedical data science. • Deliver lectures and tutorials to a cohort of post-graduate and post-doctoral scientists as part of the OBDS training programme. • Identify and troubleshoot technical or scientific problems, supporting course participants as they improve their programming and data science skills. • Contribute to scientific reports and publications for high impact journals, leading on computational analysis and methods. • Ensure the use of reproducible software environments through the use of Conda or Singularity • Keep up-to-date on the latest developments in computational biology and data science, attending relevant training courses and conferences, online, in Oxford, nationally or internationally.
