The post holder provides guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants, PhD students, and/or project volunteers. Training can be provided on all aspects of the project procedures. Responsibilities Clinical/Recruitment: • Oversee and advise on recruitment and clinical assessment activities including monitoring data quality for clinical interviews and self-report measures obtained from individuals with depression, related conditions and healthy control volunteers. • Oversee and advise on regulatory and ethical applications, documentation and reporting activities for the project, to internal ethical review boards, external funding bodies and related organisations. Data Collection/Management/Analysis • Oversee management of online databases of self-report assessments, via tools such as RedCap or Survey Monkey. • Oversee management of data collection via cognitive tasks, via tools such as PsychoPy or E-Prime. • Oversee management of data collection via digital phenotyping platforms. • Perform preprocessing and data analysis scripts for clinical, cognitive or digital phenotyping data types, via tools such as Jupyter notebook, Matlab, R or other statistical software, with good knowledge of statistical models. Neuroimaging • Oversee 7-Tesla MRI scan sessions, including executing cognitive tasks during MRI sessions and monitoring participant compliance and data quality during scanning sessions. • Maintain precise participant data tracking and data logging reports with high attention to detail. Transfer and organise MRI data in specific folder structures between a variety of hosting servers. • Run preprocessing and analysis activities for MRI data, including structural, functional or diffusion data, via tools such as AFNI, FSL, MRTRX, SPM, Matlab, or other related software. Scientific Growth • Undertake comprehensive literature reviews and write up manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and for presentation at conferences or public meetings. • Develop new research publications, book chapters and reviews. • Guide new directions for scientific growth of the lab, including providing new ideas for novel research directions, tools, procedures or data analysis pipelines. • Represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone. = • Contribute to discussions and share research findings with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups. Leadership • Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. • Act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on methodologies or procedures. • Train other staff members or students on research methodologies. • Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups. • Undertake other duties in the department from time to time as determined commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of this post, and any other reasonable request Selection criteria Essential selection criteria • Hold or nearing completion of a relevant PhD/Dphil, together with relevant experience. • Relevant lab-based experience conducting research activities related to clinical research or conducting clinical or cognitive assessments in research participants including interest or familiarity with conducting research with a clinical population. • Experience with MRI scanning procedures and experience with MRI data analysis, including structural, functional or diffusion data analysis. • Strong experience with statistical modelling or computational modelling or experience of following and adapting methodologies or creating new data analysis pipelines. • Ability to manage own research, administrative and time-keeping activities, and a strong ability to work independently. • Strong experience of contributing to research publications and excellent communication skills, including the ability to present research results, and represent the research group at meetings. • Ability to contribute ideas for new research projects or novel research directions. • Ability to work within a team, follow instructions from senior staff members and provide advice or training to other staff members or students.
