About the role

 

Oxford Thermofluids Institute is seeking a Project Engineer to design, build, and perform experimental testing of novel aerospace materials and geometries.

 

This role involves significant computer-based design and simulation, as such the successful candidate will be familiar in the use of CAD programs (i.e. SOLIDWORKS/AutoCAD) towards the design of experimental systems alongside analytical software tools (i.e. ANSYS programs) used to analyze these same systems. This role also involves experimental work, and the successful candidate will have experience in an experimental environment.

 

About you

 

The successful candidate will be the holder of a relevant Masters’s degree in Engineering with a focus on the core of the thermofluids field: fluid flow and heat transfer.

Principal Investigator / supervisor Peter Ireland The role Reports to the Principal Investigator and test facility manager. The post holder is a member of a research group with responsibility for carrying out research for advancing the understanding of advanced aerospace components. Responsibilities • Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines • Adapt existing and develop new research methodologies and materials • Prepare working theories and analyse qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining theories as appropriate • Perform experiments at a world leading experimental facility. • Prepare and carry out multi physics modelling of experimental setups. • Collaborate in the preparation of research publications, and book chapters • Act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on methodologies or procedures • Represent the research group at external meetings • Embed the principles of mutual respect, equality, diversity, inclusivity and sustainability in all aspects of your work; undertake training as and when asked to do so. Engineering Science Department Engineering teaching and research takes place at Oxford in a unified Department of Engineering Science whose academic staff are committed to a common engineering foundation as well as to advanced work in their own specialties, which include most branches of the subject. We have especially strong links with computer science, materials science, and medicine. The Department employs 140 academic staff and has around 770 research students, 700 undergraduates and 200 researchers at any one time.
