Subject to HMRC guidelines and the availability of funding, a relocation allowance may be offered Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE) DAE is led by Liesl Elder who, as Chief Development and Alumni Engagement Officer at the University of Oxford, reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor. DAE’s mission is to help secure philanthropic support for the University, and build an engaged, informed and active alumni community. Through working in partnership with academic, development, and alumni colleagues throughout the collegiate University, DAE builds enduring relationships with external constituencies – including alumni, non-alumni, corporate and foundation donors – and increases financial support for agreed academic priorities. The office is one of the central administrative departments of the University, collectively known as University Administration and Services. Due to the nature of its work, DAE collaborates closely with a number of other units and teams, particularly Public Affairs, Finance, Research and Legal. In 2019, the University and the colleges completed the Oxford Thinking Campaign, which raised £3.34bn, and is the most successful higher education fundraising campaign in Europe. The University is currently planning its next major campaign and, as a member of DAE, the post holder will have a key role to play in helping realise its successful delivery. Key relationships: Members of Development & Alumni Engagement; members of college development offices; alumni, volunteers and friends of the University; senior University Officers Purpose: To meet the objectives outlined below and other key strategic priorities as identified by the University. The post holder will need to become conversant with the University as a whole and especially with the numerous academic staff and volunteers. 3 Responsibilities The duties of the post are set out as they are envisaged at present, but it will be important for the person appointed to be versatile and adaptable, and able to contribute to the development of the fundraising and alumni engagement functions of the collegiate University.  Professionally deliver some aspects of the alumni engagement strategy within the departments and divisions.  Identify and engage with a range of stakeholders and audiences within the divisions and departments with an initial aim of supporting all departments to understand the ways that alumni can play a key role in the realisation of their ambitions and priorities.  Support all departments in communicating with their alumni at least once a year; once achieved across all departments, this will increase to once a term.  Plan and organise events and activities as part of the alumni engagement strategy and commission the DAE events team to deliver high profile and large-scale events.  Commission the Advancement Operations shared service teams to help deliver the alumni engagement strategy within budget, providing clear briefings and audience insights.  Develop and update online communications for the Alumni Relations team, including the intranet and newsletters to champion for an inclusive, responsive and strategic Alumni Engagement programme across the departments and divisions of Oxford.  Deliver tailored alumni engagement training and advice sessions to subject matter experts in the departments, creating original training material for this purpose.  Act as point of contact for less experienced colleagues, providing day-to-day guidance.  Be an active member of the University’s Alumni Engagement network and/or other relevant networks/groups in order to share information, promote best practice and champion the communication of cross-University communications. This is a new role within Development and Alumni Engagement, and as such offers the opportunity to help shape future alumni engagement with academic departments and other related sites such as the Careers Service, sports clubs, etc.

Working under the direction of the Deputy Director of Alumni Engagement, the postholder will work closely with academic and administrative colleagues in the departments to develop meaningful engagement programmes with clear local impact, to encourage the tracking and celebration of alumni engagement within the departments and ensure that alumni have a consistent experience regardless of the subject they studied.
