Good knowledge of spoken and written Japanese and Korean is essential and knowledge of other East Asian languages is desirable. Reporting / Liaison While the post holder will be based in the Collections and Resource Description department and reporting to the Asian and Middle Eastern Technical Services Manager, he or she will collaborate with subject librarians regarding East Asian collections management work. The post holder may be required to spend time working with the open-shelf collections. Responsibilities  Creation of order level records for the acquisition of new materials (monographs, periodicals and donations) in Asian and Middle Eastern languages (particularly Japanese/Korean) and receiving acquisitions using the library’s online ordering system (Alma) as required.  Editing of holdings records on the ILS.  Downloading of bibliographic records from external databases where appropriate.  Using the cataloguing module, the original and/or copy cataloguing of items in East Asian languages and for hand-held electronic resources on the ILS (according to Bodleian Libraries’ standards, currently including RDA, MARC21).  Assignment of subject headings (Library of Congress Subject Headings) where necessary.  Classification of items according to the relevant scheme (currently Library of Congress Classification) for books kept in the reading rooms, and adding to spine labels when appropriate.  Maintaining statistics of work completed and adding bar-codes where necessary.  Amending/adding circulation codes if needed.  Answering queries from staff either by e-mail or telephone when required.  Assisting with the physical movement of books throughout the department.  Stock management and book processing, as required.  Processing of the periodicals collection, as required. Asian and Middle Eastern Technical Services Department (AMETS) The AMETS team was formed in 2019 and sits within the collections and resource description section of the Bodleian. AMETS is a small team with members specializing the acquisition and cataloguing of materials in the scripts used in the Middle and Far East. The team works closely with one another, although the members all have their own specialist areas based on the languages they are familiar with, but they also help out with covering for one another as required (i.e. making sure invoices are paid in a timely manner and that orders are placed and parcels are opened in the absence of a team member) Selection criteria Essential  Good knowledge of spoken and written Japanese, Korean and English.  Experience of structured data entry in an online environment, preferably Alma (Oxford Libraries Information System) Good IT skills (Microsoft Office 2007 or later, in particular Word and Outlook and Excel).
