Programme managers oversee teams of up 50 individuals comprising a mix of staff drawn from IT Services and BAU teams, third party suppliers, delivery partners and freelance contractors. Budgets are typically in the order of £3 -10m over multiple years. Programme managers guide their programmes through the complete life-cycle, including: evaluation of high-level needs against strategic aims, programme design in collaboration with senior stakeholders, options analysis, procurement of software or infrastructure solutions, management of risks and issue resolution and transition to BAU service. They will also be expected to work with business change experts to plan business change activities, communications and stakeholder engagement. Programme managers need to possess excellent leadership qualities, to manage staff working directly on the programme as well as working closely with key stakeholders and external suppliers. They represent their programmes at the relevant IT Board(s) and at other governance bodies when required and have the skills and experience required to liaise with senior University Officers across key central Divisions as well as key stakeholders in academic areas. Business Change Managers report to the Head of Business Change within the Programme and Projects Delivery Group (PPDG) of IT Services. PPDG delivers IT projects that bring significant business benefits through enhanced technology and improved processes.

 

Over time, the role holder may be assigned to a range of initiatives across our digital portfolios. However, in the first instance, it is envisioned that they will primarily focus on one or more initiatives in the Technology Portfolio, which includes modernising technologies and delivering wide-reaching initiatives like Identity, Data and Information Security programmes.

 

Effective business change management is crucial to building stakeholder engagement, ensuring coherent and positive change processes, and avoiding disruption.

  • Experience: Demonstrable experience as a Business Change Manager on complex projects with diverse stakeholders.

  • Skills: Ability to manage complex situations, maintain project focus, and apply change methodologies effectively.

About the Role

As part of the Education Portfolio’s Senior Leadership Team, you will lead the delivery of a selection of existing projects and contribute to strategic planning for new initiatives aligned with key service areas of the Academic Administration Division (AAD).
