We currently have a rare and unique opportunity for a Chief Scientific Officer
to join our newly established Pandemic Sciences Institute within the Nuffield
Department of Medicine.





As the CSO, you will have responsibility for co-ordinating, facilitating,
monitoring and evaluating the delivery of the PSI Science Strategy. As a key
member of the PSI Senior Management Team, you will support the Institute
Director and work closely with senior PSI investigators to successfully
implement the strategy and vision for the PSI by providing leadership and
direction to deliver projects and objectives, setting milestones and KPI’s
where appropriate.





A key responsibility will be setting the strategic direction of the cross-
cutting programmes of work, via the PSI science delivery plan. Identify
opportunities for effective interdisciplinary co-ordination of research
activities between PSI investigators across PSI ensuring projects remain
aligned to the scientific strategy of the PSI, department and University,
including assessment and revision of scientific infrastructure to deliver the
programme of work.





It is essential that you hold a relevant PhD/DPhil with significant post-
qualification research experience, and have a track record in science co-
ordination and/or delivery, in either an academic, not-for-profit, or industry
environment. You will have a strong leadership record with experience of
leading and managing staff, particularly through translation of academic
scientific vision to project delivery, with the ability to engage and motivate
staff to fulfil their potential. It is essential that you have a track record
in science co-ordination and delivery, preferably in both an academic and
industry environment, and have a high level of strategic and creative thinking
with the ability to manage complex situations, competing operational
priorities and a significant level of ambiguity.
