Nuffield Professor of Population Health

The University of Oxford intends to appoint the Nuffield Professor of
Population Health who will also serve as Head of the Nuffield Department of
Population Health (NDPH). This Professorship is a key appointment for the
Department as it will bring in a new chapter of leadership when the current
incumbent, Professor Sir Rory Collins FRS, steps down from the role.
Population health and epidemiology research is a key strategic discipline for
the Oxford Medical Sciences Division and the University. It is pivotal to the
University’s many contributions to research and capacity building in global
health. This Professorship includes the leadership of the Department made up
of around 900 staff, students and academic visitors. The successful candidate
will provide effective management and leadership, and contribute to Divisional
and Central University committees, as well as lead international research
activity in NDPH.
The ideal candidate will bring an outstanding track record of first class,
internationally-recognised research with evidence of well-cited original
publications and demonstrated evidence of real-world, material impact. They
will have a strong vision for population health research, and a commitment to
leadership of the Department that will help to extend its impact on health
globally and training in the discipline. The post is available as either a
clinical or non-clinical position. If appointed to a clinical post you must be
medically qualified and will be a clinician at NHS consultant/honorary
consultant level.
The post will be based in the Nuffield Department of Population Health, and
will be associated with St John’s College. You will be a member of both the
University and College community. You will be part of a lively and
intellectually stimulating research community which performs to the highest
international levels in research and publications and will have access to the
excellent research facilities which Oxford offers. You could have a role to
play in the running of the College as a member and trustee of its Governing
Body.

an Athena SWAN silver award at institutional level, and the Nuffield
Department of Population Health also holds an Athena SWAN silver award.
